הבה נדבר על התורה. פאולוס השליח אמר ליהודים אשר הסתמכו על התורה, "לכן אין לך התנצלות אתה בן אדם הדן תהיה מי שתהיה כי במה שתדין את חברך תחיב את נפשך באשר אתה הדן תעשה כמעשהו. וידענו כי משפט אלוהים כפי האמת על עושי אלה.ואתה בן אדם הדן את אשר פעלו כאלה ועשית כמעשיהם התחשוב להימלט ממשפט האלוהים." (אל הרומים 3-2:1). הלגליסטים חושבים שהם מכבדים בצורה טובה את אלוהים. סוג כזה של אנשים אינו מאמין באלוהים בליבו אלא עם גאוותם העצמית המבוססת על מעשיהם. אנשים כאלה אוהבים לשפוט אחרים, והם טובים בזה. בכל אופן, כאשר הם שופטים אחרים עם דבר אלוהים, הם אינם מבינים שהם אותו דבר ועושים אותה טעות כמו אלא אשר הם מותחים ביקורת עליהם.
