Когда наш Господь шёл из Вифании в Иерусалим, издалека Он увидел смоковницу, и так как был голоден, подошёл к этому дереву, чтобы отведать его плодов. Но, подойдя, Господь увидел, что на смоковнице плодов нет. Здесь в Библии написано, что на дереве не было плодов, потому что «еще не время было [собирания] смокв» (Марка 11:13). Но тем не менее Господь сказал этой смоковнице: «Отныне да не вкушает никто от тебя плода вовек!» (Марка 11:14).
