Après le désastre américain de 1998, la Toho a senti que son devoir était de produire à nouveau des Godzilla. Et tant pis s'il n'était pas initialement prévu de le faire avant 2005, parfois les circonstances exigent d'agir vite.
Ainsi sont nés Godzilla 2000 : Millenium - sorti fin 99 soit 18 mois après la sortie du GODZILLA de Roland Emmerich, puis Godzilla vs Megaguirus, en 2000.
