Il 1917, l’anno fatidico della Rivoluzione vede Prokof’ev quasi del tutto estraneo agli eventi che “sconvolsero il mondo”: tutte le sue energie sono indirizzate alla composizione. Per questo si rifugia in luoghi lontani dal clima incandescente di quei giorni esi dedica a lavori alieni da incertezze e paure. Si tratta del Primo Concerto per violino e orchestra, della Sinfonia “Classica” e, per quanto riguarda il pianoforte, della Terza Sonata op. 28 e della Quarta Sonata op. 29. Entrambe scaturiscono “d’après des vieux cahiers”, cioè da materiali che risalgono agli anni sereni e felici dell’infanzia o della gioventù. Ascolteremo queste due pagine nelle esecuzioni di Emil Gilels e di Sviatoslav Richter.
