About this listen

 24 ottobre 1648. A Munster si svolge la solenne firma della cerimonia del trattato di Vestfalia. I documenti, prima di essere firmati e contrassegnati dai sigilli, vengono letti ad alta voce. La cerimonia dura ben 8 ore, poi tutte le campane suonano a festa, e i 70 cannoni della città sparano a salve. La Guerra dei Trent'anni è finita. Nei mesi successivi, ben 40mila copie del testo del trattato verranno stampate in tutta la Germania.
La Pace di Vestfalia del 1648, però, non è solo il momento conclusivo di uno dei conflitti più sanguinosi della storia d'Europa; è anche una svolta importante nel cammino che conduce all'Europa contemporanea.
