Lord Karan Bilimoria CBE was born in Hyderabad, India in 1961 into a Zoroastrian Parsi family. He moved to London on a scholarship once graduated, receiving a diploma in Accounting and qualified as a Chartered Accountant. During a tour of India with the Cambridge Polo Team, he started his first venture which was to sell polo sticks from India to the UK, establishing relationships with Harrod’s and Lillywhites. Soon after in 1989, he had the idea of a cool new Indian Beer which had the “refreshing qualities of Lager”, mixed with the “smoothness and drinkability” of ale to drink alongside food. He has led Cobra to be renowned as one of the global market leaders for Indian Beers, being awarded 101 Gold and Grand Gold medals by Monde Selection and creating a Joint Venture with Molson Coors in 20011. He’s the Vice President of CBI; the Founding Chairman of the UK India Business Council; and Lord Bilimoria of Chelsea, the first ever Zoroastrian Parsi to sit in the House of Lords.
