V nejslavnějších letech teplického fotbalu patřil na Stínadlech k ikonám. Byl u toho, když Severočeši postoupili v roce 1996 do nejvyšší soutěže, o tři roky později jim dopomohl v lize k druhé příčce a účasti v kvalifikaci o Ligu mistrů. Nikdo se proto nemohl divit, že tehdejší šéf teplických sklářů František Hrdlička nechtěl slyšet, že by snad Radek Divecký odešel. Vždyť Divecký a Pavlem Verbířem tvořili útočnou dvojici, která byla postrachem všech soupeřových obran.
