Věčně druhý, musel si Karel Rada hořce povzdechnout, když v sedmatřiceti končil na jaře roku 2008 aktivní hráčskou kariéru. Druhý skončil v lize s Olomoucí, se stříbrnou příčkou se musel smířit, když oblékal dres Slavie, jen horší skóre, než měla Sparta, ho v roce 2005 připravilo o druhé místo, když po návratu z angažmá v německém Frankfurtu kopal za Teplice. A druhý skončil i s českou reprezentací na evropském šampionátu v devadesátém šestém roce v Anglii po zlatém gólu, který ve finálovém prodloužení v londýnském Wembley vstřelil Němec Oliver Bierhoff.
