I Quartetti op. 18 di Ludwig van Beethoven furono i primi composti dal musicista tedesco. Ancora fedele a Haydn e Mozart, pur senza rinunciare a elementi di novità, Beethoven costruisce un tessuto sonoro puro e cantabile. Il Quartetto in fa maggiore n. 1 è noto soprattutto per l’Adagio, pagina patetica e appassionata per la quale Beethoven avrebbe pensato alla scena shakespeariana di Giulietta e Romeo presso la tomba.
