הבשורה, ביוונית 'אוג'ליון', משמעותה 'חדשות טובות'. כאשר ישוע המשיח נולד בבית לחם, מלאך אלהים הופיע ואמר לרועי הצאן אשר השגיחו על צאנם בלילה, "כבוד במרומים לאלוהים ובארץ שלום בבני אדם רצונו" (לוקס 2:14) אלה היו חדשות טובות – 'שלום בבני אדם רצונו.' בשורתו של ישוע הושיעה אותנו מכל החטאים ושטפה את חטאי העולם. ישוע שטף את כל חטאינו. הוא בעצמו, שטף את כל החטאים של אלה אשר התפתלו כמו תולעת בערימת זבל ואשר חטאו ברפש.
