لقد كتب يوحنا الرسول سفر الرؤيا الذي سجل إعلان يسوع المسيح له أثناء إقامته في بطمس، و هي جزيرة في بحر إيجة و التي نفى إليها يوحنا في أواخر أيام حكم الإمبراطور الرومانى دومتيان (حوالي سنة 95 م). لقد نفى يوحنا إلى جزيرة بطمس لأجل شهادة لكلمة الله والشهادة ليسوع، وهذه الجزيرة هي حيث رأى عالم الله مبينا بواسطة يسوع المسيح من خلال وحى الروح القدس و ملائكته.
