英語には日本語よりも多くの種類の母音があります。
例えば、日本語の「ア」に似た音は、英語では少なくとも3つあります。
[æ]- 「エ」と「ア」の中間の音 (hat, map, cat)
[ɑ] - 日本語の「ア」より少したてに口を開けて出す音 (hot, wash, mom)
[ʌ] - 口を脱力し、ポカンと開けて出す音 (hut, cut)
