About this listen

Meet Elizabeth Ann, a shy and fragile little girl who lives under the care of her Aunt Frances and Great-Aunt Harriet. When Great-Aunt Harriet falls ill, Elizabeth Ann is reluctantly sent to stay with her dreaded Putney cousins in Vermont—known for their harshness and lack of understanding. Great-Aunt Harriet had warned her about their indifference to the sensitivities of childhood, but Elizabeth Ann must adapt. However, with the love and support of her Uncle Henry, Aunt Abigail, and Cousin Ann, she embarks on a transformative journey. As she grows stronger and more confident, Elizabeth Ann begins to think for herself and ultimately blossoms into the spirited and independent Understood Betsy. (summary Kymm Zuckert)
