Summary

 A mysterious body washes up on the shores of a New England town, sparking a chilling investigation. The deceased woman remains unrecognized, and the townsfolk quickly assume she drifted ashore from a passing vessel. However, the treacherous tides of Lonesome Cove tell a different story—no ships venture through these waters. As the town officials, including the sheriff, the attorney, the local doctor, and the village gossip, display unusual secrecy regarding the identity of the body, the truth becomes increasingly elusive. They hastily bury the woman, hoping to bury the mystery along with her. But Chester Kent, a determined outsider, refuses to accept the townspeoples conclusions.
