聖書が伝える驚くべきメッセージとは、宇宙の創造主が、私たちを愛し、私たちが犯した罪の恐ろしい結果から私たちを救おうとされて、私たちと同じような人間となられたというメッセージです。ご自身は栄光の王、力ある創造主、聖なる神である方が、この悲惨に満ちた悪しき世に来られ、人類の代表として私たちに代わって私たちの罪を負い、私たちの身代わりとなって死ぬことによって世の罪を取り除くために来られたのです。手には人間たちによって釘が打ち込まれ、その顔は血と唾にまみれました。この方は、人類の罪に対する神の正しいさばきをその身に負ってくださったのです。
