蜆川の最上流部、堂島川から分かれる地点に架けられていた橋です。
近松門左衛門の浄瑠璃『心中天の網島』で小春・治兵衛が心中のため
曽根崎新地から網島に向かう途中に渡った橋のひとつです。
1909(明治42)年の北の大火後、蜆川が埋められて廃橋となりました。
