श्रीसमर्थांच्या काळी काय किंवा आज काय माणसाच्या वाट्याला सुखदुःख काही चुकलेली नाहीत . कालानुरूप त्यांचे स्वरूप बदलले असू शकते . पण माणसाची वृत्ती बर्यापैकी तशीच आहे . किंबहुना दिवसेंदिवस आणखी भोगवादी होत चालली आहे . यात सामान्य माणसाचं आयुष्य कसं होतं व कसं असतं हे समर्थ पुढील चार भागांमध्ये सांगतात . हेतू हा कि जगात सगळ्यांचंच आयुष्य सारखं असतं हे समजून खूप मोह किंवा शोक न करता माणसाने शहाणा होऊन आपलं स्वहित करून परमार्थी लागावं .
