 در این اپیزود از قصه ایمان سفری می‌کنیم به هزاران سال پیش، زمانی که هنوز خطی وجود نداشت و انسان تنها با ابزارهای ابتدایی و تخیلش دنیا رو معنا می‌کرد. از نخستین تدفین‌ها و آیین‌های مرگ که نشان از باور به زندگی پس از مرگ داشتند، تا نقاشی‌های اسرارآمیز غارها که بازتابی از جادوی همدلی و شمنیسم بودند. اینجا می‌بینیم چطور «جان‌باوری» و نسبت دادن روح به طبیعت، پایه‌ی اولین شکل‌های ایمان شد. در ادامه به انقلاب نمادین گو‌بکلی‌تپه می‌رسیم؛ جایی که برای نخستین بار دین به شکل نهادی آشکار شد و انسان‌ها پیش از کشاورزی، معبد ساختند. بعد قدم می‌گذاریم به میان‌رودان—سرزمین سومر، بابل و آشور—جایی که خدایانی چون انلیل، ایشتار و مردوک نه فقط نیرویی در طبیعت، بلکه شخصیت‌هایی شبیه انسان شدند. در این بخش، حماسه‌ی گیلگمش و داستان طوفان بزرگ را مرور می‌کنیم؛ روایت‌هایی که بعدها در تورات و سنت‌های دیگر هم تکرار شدند. این اپیزود درباره مسیریه که ذهن بشر از ارواح ناشناخته‌ی طبیعت به سمت خدایان انسان‌گونه و سپس به سوی ایده‌ی خدایی والا و کامل حرکت کرد. قصه‌ای درباره‌ی مغز ما، ترس و امید ما، و تلاش بی‌پایان‌مون برای معنا دادن به زندگی و مرگ.
