やせ我慢人生を歩いてきたすべての先人に、愛を込めて――人生劇場。
何もかもが赤く染まった鉄鉱の町・室蘭。
四人兄弟の次男に生まれた猛夫は、兄にいじめられ、母には冷たくあしらわれながら日々を過ごしていた。
心のよりどころは食堂と旅館を営む伯母のカツ。やがて猛夫はカツのもとで育てられることになる。
中学卒業後、理容師を目指し札幌に出た猛夫だが、挫折して室蘭に帰る。
常に劣等感を抱えるようになった猛夫は、いつか大きくなって皆を見返してやりたいと思うように。
理容師として独立、ラブホテル経営と、届かぬ夢だけを追い続けた男の行く末は。
