The conveniently named Baxter Baker runs a bakery. He is a 42yo gay single father to bubbly Becca, his dead sister’s daughter. Baxter is as bubbly as Becca but his fake sunny nature masks his grief for his sister and their estranged family. Becca cajoles her dad to enrol in the Christmas Buddies Program and despite his reluctance, Baxter is pleased to be paired with the hunky but grumpy Paxton Montgomery, whose own son, Nathan, has signed him up for the program. While Nathan and Becca get on like a house on fire (Nathan’s cunning plan all along), Baxter finds Paxton’s anger and resentment confusing—what on earth has he ever done to Paxton? Over time the two men smooth things over and Paxton can’t understand why he ever disliked Baxter. But is it enough for Paxton to really explore his hitherto closeted bisexuality?

I had no expectations about this family-drama / festive-season / grumpy-sunshine / blue-collar romance but I absolutely adored the four main characters and the upbeat story. While this was heartfelt, it wasn’t too saccharine or schmaltzy. Both Baxter and Paxton live with past sorrow and it’s the teenage kids who act as unintentional cupids, getting their two dads together. While the developing romance drives the plot, all four characters play major roles, and it’s especially wonderful watching each dad nurture and support their own kid. While the romance is slowburn, a fond chemistry and high heat between the two dads develops and it was lovely to watch. 🎧 One of the reasons I loved this so much as the excellent audio narration by Stephen Dexter (as Paxton) and Liam DiCosimo (as Baxter), baker’s kiss!

Took a chance on this free read and was very happily surprised. It was a cute story with some great spicy scenes. I loved both MCs and the narrators did an excellent job of making them so interesting.
I’ll try the next one in the series too.

This is an opposites attract holiday romance, featuring Baxter and Paxton, and is book one in the Christmas Daddies Series.

Baxter and Paxton couldn’t be more opposite. After being parent trapped by their kids, they are forced to spend time with each other over the holidays. These two single dads, and their kids, had me giggling and smiling the whole way through this book with the dad jokes, the awkwardness and the banter.

This is a low angst and light read, it’s a fantastic holiday read. And I love the single dad trope when they get a HEA.

Cute characters and story - predictable - no surprises. Good to listen to when driving or doing housework, though, not during the sex scenes which are super hot and could be distracting
