Um einem Plattfuß von vornherein aus dem Weg zu gehen, wählte sie deshalb ihr altes Mountainbike, das aber neun Pfund schwer war... Gegen die gefährlichen Grizzly Bären, Pumas und Elche schützte sie sich mit einem Bärenglöckchen am Fußgelenk und Bären-Spray. Über nicht abreißende Berge und an brennenden Wäldern vorbei, ging es immer weiter gen Norden.
