Publisher's Summary

Forest bathing is a gentle, meditative practice of connecting with nature. Simply being present with all of our senses, in a forest or other wild area, can produce mental, emotional, and physical health benefits. It is a simple, accessible antidote to our nature-starved lives and can inspire us to become advocates for healing our relationships with the more-than-human world.

This book is both an invitation to take up the practice of forest bathing and an inspiration to connect with nature as a way to help heal both the planet and humanity.

Forest Therapy is a research-based framework for supporting healing and wellness through immersion in forests and other natural environments. In Japan, forest bathing is known as shinrin-yoku. Studies there have demonstrated a wide variety of health benefits, especially in the cardiovascular and immune systems, and for stabilizing and improving mood and cognition.

In Your Guide to Forest Bathing, Amos Clifford draws on four decades of wilderness experience to introduce readers to the medicine of being in the forest. Learn about the roots of the practice, how to deepen your relationship to nature, and how to begin a practice of your own. Practical matters such as finding a suitable trail and what to bring are also included.

Boring as hell

Takes a wonderfully compelling subject and makes it seem like a children's book in its tone and cadence. Maybe some people's interest was sparked but not mine!

Not what I expected

Somewhere along the line there was a reference to a PDF that was supposed to be included with the book but there was none. At least I didn't find any. I also found the book boring and quite superficial although the subject matter in itself is very fascinating. I fell asleep several times while listening and was finally able to get to the end by increasing the speed of narration. The author prompts you to take the book along with you when you go to bathe in the forest but I don't think there is much value in doing that. This is more like an overview of the concept of forest bathing rather than a practical guide for people, especially beginners, who want to do it on their own. I'm returning this book.

Solid Nonfiction Title

The narrator does a good solid nonfiction narration, clear and varied enough, and both topic and narration held my interest. Sometimes with self-development themed titles with lots of activities and suggestions, I find that although I enjoy the audio, I'd like to have access to the print book as well, and I did feel that way with this one.

Brilliant, playful, deep and full of possibility!

What a journey! I hope people really do take this book with them into the forest. May we all find healing and build relationships of reciprocity as we find our way between the chaos world and the wilderness with tenderness and love. Forest Therapy as defined by Anos Clifford, founder of ANFT, is such a beautiful and powerful practice with potent potential for all who are willing to open their hearts and bodies. Do yourself a favor and read this book. Then read it again. Then pass it on to a friend.

Refreshing and invigorating!

Often I find books like this full of dead wood and fallen branches, this one grew on me and was fantastic. Succinct, invitational and authentic, open hearted and inspirational.
