Too long.
Too many characters to remember, too much unnecessary padding. It's a good story but now getting tedious. I am continuing on with book 5 with hopes of improvement

A bit slow to start, but the story grows
If you've listened to the previous instalments and been hooked like me then you are keen to continue the story! This novel takes a while to get into things with more focus on politics and discussions, but a third of the way in things start to flow a lot easier and more of the story's plot is revealed. I enjoyed it well enough after the slow start and am hoping the next instalment with be in the flow for the entire book.

Continuing narrative and raising the stakes for our misfits
I really love every book in this series but I feel like the keeping place is where it finds it’s feet and matures more into a more adult series.
The reality of the challenges faced by the misfits becomes viscerally more apparent and the author does not shy from the usual honest, engaging portrayal of the character’s deepest minds.
This is certainly an instalment in a saga, but very satisfying to read/ listen too, as there is a contact draw of action and revelation to keep you curious.

tension
Finally a bit of romance blooming with our favorite characters growing up. We see the Misfits daily lives at Obernewtyn - but there is tension, with rebellion growing, suspicions about the Herders, and an untrustworthy Malik, although she should have seen that coming!

Dullest in the series so far
the book just goes on and and on and honestly NOTHING happens. I'm also very sick of her conjecture and misdirection about plot points.

Well worth listening to
Well worth listening to (or reading), even though I felt that there was quite a bit of rambling in places and reminding of events from previous books in the series. I found myself often getting impatient for some action throughout the book, and yet it's a well thought out story with rich and intriguing elements. The characters that populate the book are excellent and appropriately endearing or loathsome. I also find myself getting annoyed at the main heroine's unwillingness to deal swift justice to her enemies. I'm looking forward to the next novel. Although it's a series more for teenage readers and as such gets slightly predictable in places for adult readers, it's enjoyable with believable dialogue, and I think Isobelle Carmody does a very good job of narrating her own story. I appreciate that Isobelle doesn't make her voice sound slow and jock-like when she reads the dialogue of the male characters, which is something that is irksome in many other narrators.
