Story
The renowned fantasy and science fiction writer China Mieville has long been inspired by the ideals of the Russian Revolution, and here, on the centenary of the revolution, he provides his own distinctive take on its history. In February 1917, in the midst of bloody war, Russia was still an autocratic monarchy: nine months later it became the first socialist state in world history. How did this unimaginable transformation take place? How was a ravaged and backward country, swept up in a desperately unpopular war, rocked by not one but two revolutions?

Penguin presents the audio download edition of La Belle Sauvage by Philip Pullman, read by Michael Sheen.
Eleven-year-old Malcolm Polstead and his dæmon, Asta, live with his parents at the Trout Inn near Oxford. Critic Reviews
"The best piece of narration I've ever heard." (The Bookseller)
"Michael Sheen's narration of Philip Pullman's new novel is better than an army of voice actors. His voice is impressive, from the crisp, definitive consonants of its higher registers to the rumbly bass notes Sheen summons when some menace enters the scene, to the vast, buttery expanse of his middle range." Highly entertaining - expertly narrated
I loved Phillip Pullman’s original trilogy and this first prequel book is just as entertaining. As an audio book it worked very well thanks to the amazing narration of Michael Sheen - he brought every character to life, especially Malcolm - the smart, inquisitive and brave young Malcolm. I can’t wait to listen to the rest of the series - suitable for young and old alike.

Can hardly wait for the next installment
Loved this book, loved this series. As soon as I finished I was disappointed that it was over - I wanted more. So I was pleased when it was suggested that more was coming, not being fully confident that it wasn't The Dark Materials trilogy. Here's hoping...

Best Narration Ever
Started slow, and end was a little anticlimactic, but it was a great ride and Michael Sheen did a remarkable job narrating. The best ever. Each character was instantly recognizable.

Narrotor skilled with his many character voices. Injected drama and mood well. Great characters. Fitting prequel to a favourite trilogy.

Marvellous
This is the most remarkable audio performance I’ve ever encountered, Michael Sheen gives every character their own distinct individuality that could not be bettered even with a whole cast of actors. The emotion of every scene, every line of the story, is expressed to perfection. What I want now is to listen to the His Dark Materials books read by him too. Astonishingly good
