Publisher's Summary

Honor and betrayal fuel a caste-shattering revolution in the action-packed new novel from the number one New York Times best-selling author of the Red Rising Trilogy.

Ten years after the events of Morning Star, Darrow and the Rising are battling the remaining Gold loyalist forces and are closer than ever to abolishing the color-coded caste system of Society for good. But new foes will emerge from the shadows to threaten the imperfect victory Darrow and his friends have earned. Pierce Brown expands the size and scope of his impressive Red Rising universe with new characters, enemies, and conflicts among the stars.

solid follow up

I was doubtful whether this one would be worth it having read some negative reviews. but this book is a natural continuation of the momentum of the first three books. it opens more complexity and nuance in the characters, their motivations and morality; the first three books were 'flatter' in a way, and they had this naive Batman or James Bond feel to them at times (which of course my inner adolescent loves); but the multiple story lines of this fourth book bring dimensionality to the chronicle. worth a read if you were sucked into the first three.

ps. don't expect much depth in social or political commentary. I have wanted to see the wisdom in what the author says about human nature, civilisation, culture etc. but it still feels pretty hollow sometimes. there are a few gems of insight, but it's good to bear in mind that we are reading the words of a white modern man who imports a whole bunch of assumptions from his (our) colonised mind

Fantastic

Another banger from Pierce! I see some people complaining about the narrators but I loved them, absolutely awesome experience, would highly recommend.

Good addition to the series

A good addition to the series, the narration was really good in this one.

Lysander?

Love the story and most of the narrators except for Lysander. Honestly a god awful reading from him. I had to skip most of his chapters despite being interested in the character himself.

Series seems to be faltering.

Confusing plot line. Jumping from one character to another and meandering story. Will probably give next book a go. If that continues in same vein I will bail.

this series is the best

I cannot get enough of these books. I've read the first 3 before this one. I was a bit skeptical at first after looking at the reviews but boy is it good. alot of reviews were saying they didn't like the multiple voices in this audio book. but I just loved it. each voice is it's own storyline and character. which works very well in my opinion I could put the voice to the characters they played so easily. this book added a couple perspectives on the issues in the book Darrow was still in it, there was a couple new faces with a story and a couple old ones. it's a very good book.

Incredible!!

This story drags you into the lives of its characters and breaks your heart.
The Red Rising series broke the worlds as it broke the chains. Now, in Iron Gold, the consequences of that freedom stolen threatens to break everything else. This character driven tale forces us to look at our own society and the things that divide us. I cannot sing Iron Gold's praises loud enough.💜

decent continuation

good book in the style of the latest half od the first trilogy, but found the variable volume (the performance itself was fine) of different narrators annoying

Slow to get going but it delivers at the end

Another epic tale. Didn’t like the alternate view points at the start being used to hearing only Darrow’s journey but it all came together in the end and was immensely gripping and entertaining! Easily my fav series of all time.
