Publisher's Summary

From the 'anti-guru' author of the smash hit The Life-Changing Magic of Not Giving a F--k and the New York Times best seller Get Your Sh*t Together.

In The Life-Changing Magic of Not Giving a F--k, our favourite 'anti-guru' Sarah Knight unleashed the power of saying no. In Get Your Sh*t Together, she prioritised the sh*t you need and want to do so you can achieve your hopes and dreams. Now she's back, doubling down on your happiness with her latest message: You Do You.

Being yourself should be the easiest thing in the world. Yet instead of leaning in to who we are, we fight it, listening too closely to what society tells us. You Do You helps you shake off those expectations, say f--k perfect, start looking out for number one and keep on with your badass self. From career and finances to relationships and family, lifestyle and health, Sarah Knight rips up the rulebook.

Writing about her mistakes and embarrassments in her own personal quest to 'do me' - because nobody gets everything right all day, every day - Sarah Knight shows why you can and should f--k up and teaches you to let yourself off the hook, bounce back and keep standing tall.

Hard Work

I found this hard to listen to, no, impossible. The vocal fry and uppy-downy sentences made me feel like I was on a rollercoaster at a condescending theme park. I'm all for the author "doing her" but I'm doing me by not listening any more. It might help if I could actually process a sentence without huge effort. The overly sing-song lilt makes it incomprehensible otherwise. Her cursing is excessive. Cursing is great to emphasize things worth emphasizing, but she throws it on like white on rice for overly dramatic effect to replace what seems to be a lack of content.

Not what I was expecting

I found this book to be quite boring didn’t make a lot of sense and I really struggled to listen to it. Not recommend.

Mediocre

I have to say, I did read this AFTER reading the other two books - get your sh*t together and the one on how to not give as many f*cks. In comparison, I did not find this one as informative or entertaining/educational. Still a nice read... but didn't 'get me' like the other two.

Smug

The most self congratulatory book I've ever read- and this is after Sidney Pointier's auto biography! The first book in the series was fresh and liberating, but this is so dull, patronising and full of smug 'You can't edit this out, I'm a thrice published author" in jokes that put me off. Empty of any new ideas. Avoid. Read DeBotton instead.

No my cup of tea

This book takes so long to get to the point or even into anything that is worth doing to "do you" anyone can write a book like this, it doesn't take a genius to give advice on being you or being brave, all in all not very well put together an loads of repeating the same stuff over and over again

After this book I feel more free. I am ME .!

After listening this book I feel like I got rid of the ton of the burdens in my mind of how I should act, how I should be. because in these days when we comparing ourselves to the others who might look like they are doing better and look better - we think that we are wrong, we are not good enough and we are seeking for some kind of mystic acceptence from people who are not perfect either.. Thank you Sarah, this is what I needed the most. by listening you, I felt like you are my friend who is talking to me and supporting me. like that little angel on the right shoulder, who is whispering in my ear that you are not wrong if you are YOU, and you are allowed to be yourself. I'm 26 years old and still was struggling with self esteem and chasing acceptence from other people. Now I can only laugh about myself and wonder, why in the world I should do that.. I feel like new era just started in my life and I can easily focus on my little weird dreams what I want to achieve. :) for preople who are considering to read or listen this book and you are also struggling with self acceptance and desperately caring for other people opinion which stops you take the next step in your life, BUY THIS BOOK NOW, YOU NOT GONNA REGRET. ;)

Definitely not a self-help book - which is fine if that’s what you’re expecting.

Can see how this could be useful or entertaining for some. Personally found it came across as self important and I didn’t enjoy a lot of the humour. Also thought it was inappropriate of the author to give details about weight in a (brief) section about eating disorders. Felt it reflected a tendency for the writing to come across as thoughtless at times.

utter rubbish

The author puts more emphasis on trying to be fun and funny than putting any real content into the book. I am struggling to find one single useful piece of content in this.

Too self involved

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

This book had far too much pointless cussing. I found the writer far too into herself with very little to take away. Couldn't finish it without hanging myself so I stopped listening.

Disappointing for I’m afraid :(

I found this book a bit disappointing, I had high hopes and it was in The Guardians recommended reads section. The beginning was motivational but then I got totally lost with the plot and what Sarah Knight was talking about and unfortunately gave up with it.

Not funny and not insightful

I literally have no idea why anyone would enjoy or benefit from this book. Maybe that makes me weird and a black sheep. Happy to accept that as long as I never have to listen to another from this series.

Comical, but not sure...

This was read really well and made me laugh in some places, but I thought the subjects were a bit all over the place, and not sure if it's true to the title about getting what you want, though it does address just being you.

Hmmm

Ultimately, I was left confused by the end of this one. There certainly were some inspiring nuggets nestled within, but I guess the benefit of adorning oneself with the 'anti-hero' label gives one permission to stray off the beaten track on a whim and parade largely unnecessary personal anecdotes with the sole justification of 'f*ck you, this is my book- read the title again'. I can't argue that there were some invigorating and powerful sentiments in here, but I felt unsure as to whether the writer wanted to inspire me or just make me laugh by flogging that dead horse of irreverence that I was irritated on more occasions than a few. This all said, I didn't hate it, I was just left confused. Perhaps the above points are what some people really dig, but without a reliable foothold within either psychology nor comedy, the inconsistency of it all simply felt unreliable and awkward. Nevertheless, I can't dispute the writer's passion, moxie, and amiability, all the same.

CONTROVERSIALLY INTETESTING

A whole lot of pick up points on how to be absolutely true to yourself. A whole lot of unconventional ideologies as well which are in my own opinion, controversial and highly debatable. The narration is remarkable!
