About this listen

Tim Booth is shocked when his first emergency callout for someone short of breath turns out to be an adult man with a blocked nose. Far from beginner's luck, this turns out to be an omen for the rest of his paramedic career.

Between the obligatory stories of objects lodged in body cavities and grown men who can't look after themselves when their wives are away, Tim finds that the promised life-saving moments are far outweighed by the trivial, frustrating and bizarre ambulance callouts. He and his colleagues battle fatigue, abuse and burnout - treated with coffee, occasional moments of heroism, and a healthy dose of dark humour.

Told with cutting wit, pathos and disarming insight, You Called an Ambulance for What? is a comedic behind-the-sirens look at the challenges, absurdities and shocking reality of life as an Australian intensive care paramedic.

I really enjoyed this book, and having it read to me by the author made it just that little bit more enjoyable.
I laughed at way to many spots and commiserated with him in just as many.
I would gladly listen to many more stories like this from those in the front lines of danger, whether it be from bullets or the old Nona who knew better then to climb that ladder.

This was such a witty and honest insight into life as a paramedic in Australia and the trivial, frustrating and bizarre reasons people call an ambulance.

I really enjoyed this book and the entertaining stories incorporated throughout, they were so many that had me laughing out loud. However, underlying the humorous anecdotes, is the eye opening reality of the constant misuse of our emergency services. I reckon this book needs to be read before anyone is allowed to called an ambulance 😂

It was like listening to myself. I truly felt validated that others have similar lived experience. Tim's narration gives that extra element of integrity. A must read.

I loved that it was an unsanitised view of the stupidity that all healthcare workers come across. It highlights issues with a system abused by some that is there to protect those who need it. I laughed, shook my head and completely understood.

It was true, raw and entertaining.

Well done! I really enjoyed listening to this book. I can relate to the stories as my son is a paramedic and he tells similar stories. I just wish people use the Ambulance service for emergency and not trivial complaints.

Enjoyed the stories
