Deliciously creepy
I loved this book. Ambrose Ibsen is a literary genius who has beautifully crafted a suspenseful, spin chilling, macabre horror novel which had me hooked from chapter 1. If horror genre appeals to you and if you don't mind some gore, this page-turner would make your blood run cold! Hats off to the talented narrator who made the book thoroughly enjoyable!

Creeptastic.
So Ambrose Ibsen has done it again!! This book was awesome. The author has created an extremely creepy and terrifying book.
This was a slow burner in a way. We don't get a true sense of what the tablet is, or what it does for a while, but the plot is also fast paced and intense. We are thrown into the story right from the start and from there, it's a never ending series of events and creepy things happening.
The author has a way of making it easy to connect to his characters. They just feel so real. This is no different. I liked all the characters and connected with them easily.
In all, this was a well written and developed book. The world building was awesome and the plot was fascinating. The idea of an unearthed tablet and what it caused was equal parts terrifying as it was captivating.
Jake Urry is such a talented narrator. He has an amazing array of tones and voices and his ability to capture the atmosphere of the book was phenomenal. He just oozed creepiness!! When you pair him with an Ambrose Ibsen novel, it's certain to be a winner!
I was voluntarily provided this audiobook for free from the author, narrator, or publisher. This in no way affected nor influenced my thoughts.

Creepy-Good-Fun
Ambrose Ibsen seems to have a knack for the creepy story. This book is a prime example. The characters are believable, their motives are justified and the supernatural aspects all will make your skin crawl.
The Narrator did a fine job, I just struggled with his accent for about the first half of the book. I had to start it over because I was confused due to having a hard time understanding him. Once I went back through the first chapter or two, I acclimated to his voice and had no issues after that.
I received a free preview copy of this audiobook and have left a voluntary review.

Archaeological Thriller at its best
I just finished this audiobook by Ambrose Ibsen with Jake Urey as the narrator. What a journey. The unfolding of the story was done in such a way that I was unable to walk away for a moment. The anticipation was grand in this book. I found myself holding my breath waiting for the next sentence.
Archaeological horror is such a fun genre. The uncovering of a mystery and the connecting the historical dots is completely fascination. Well done!
Amazing storytelling from Ambrose and amazing characterization by Jake. These two are the perfect one-two punch in a horror story

Exorcist in the Cthulhu mythos had a baby and it is wretchedness
This author does amazing ghost stories I mean stuff this out of this world. This is not one of those books. This book is what the result would be if the exorcist in the Cthulhu Mythos had a baby. Take an ancient artifact imbue it with the evilness and the drive of a lost cult and their evil God. Everything it touches everyone it touches his imbued with the wretchedness. One unlucky vessel will become the embodiment of that lost God Heaven help us all if they can't stop it. A great story wonderfully written and amazingly narrated. Another Great Ibsen horror!!
What did you love best about Wretchedness?
I got this book for free in exchange for an honest review.
I'm a huge Ibsen fan! What I loved best about this title is the obscure story it told. Not your typical ghost story or possession by ancient artifact!
Who was your favorite character and why?
While I liked all the carachters, I think the older woman, Renee (so) was my favorite. While she was descending into madness from the curse of the tablet, she was honest, while a bit psychotic, from the beginning.
What does Jake Urry bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Jane Urey is a wonderful narrator! I have read several Ibsen titles that he narrated, and he breathes a life and individuality to each carachter that the printed method just doesn't offer!
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
An Ancient Evil That Should Have Been Left Buried.
Any additional comments?
While I am legally blind and biased as I only read audiobooks I feel that the author and the narrator provide a wonderful combination and delivery of a story that I will read more than once!

BEST IBSEN YET
Any additional comments?
I cannot say enough good things about the work of Ambrose Ibsen. His stuff is just right up my ally - sophisticated and satisfying paranormal stories and "Wretchedness" was by far the best one yet! This story had several interweaving plot lines that made for a complex and interesting listen. Not only that, but the paranormal concept was one I hadn't come across before (which is pretty impressive seeing as almost every instance of "ghosts" has become a total cliche). I won't say anymore for fear of spoilers. I will say, though, that if you are even vaguely interested in paranormal stories, you should really give "Wretchedness" a shot - it's absolutely fantastic. Jake Urry is phenomenal, as always!

Creepy
A very creepy spooky story. I enjoy Jakes narration as he keeps the creepiness of the tale alive & keeps the momentum flowing really well.
The story itself was good, with a few twist and built up to find yourself waiting for what was next.

I am beginning to listen ...
Any additional comments?
Narrator Jake Urry, could, if he wanted to do so, make Winnie the Pooh sound sinister - and this is no tale of friendly nursery toys. Instead, Wretchedness is what befalls the protagonists who are brought under the influence of some dark mystery. One which could threaten the world as we know it.
It is a straightforward horror story, creepy in the writing and made even more so by the brilliant narration as Mr.Urry squeezes every comma for creepiness from the text. And a very good ending.
Not for the fainthearted, but otherwise, highly recommended.

Holding my breath waiting for the story to unfold
I'm going to start with the narration for a change because wow. Jake Urey's narration is amazing. I can't say that I'm that familiar with horror based in an archaeological setting. But I like it. It's a great creepy tale with a brilliant sense of pace. We get twists and turns and I certainly keep wanting more. I really enjoyed this book. It's edge of your seat suspense and you are gripped from the start to the conclusion. A really cool book! Jump in and enjoy!!! This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.

Loved it!
Oh my days! Oh my days! What a book! Absolutely flipping terrifying. Right from the first paragraph you are thrown into the deep end. The story moves along at a seriously fast pace, leaving you breathless from the speed and the sheer unrelenting terror. Ambrose Ibsen has written a story which is dark, atmospheric and deeply disturbing. It's horror writing at its absolute best. How many times did I find myself jumping at shadows and checking people's skin for any hint of blue. On its own the story is mind blowingly frightening. But then add the narration of Jake Urry and you'll find the hairs on the back of your neck standing completely upright and your legs quivering like a bowl of jelly. The partnership of Ibsen and Urry takes this book to the top of the out of this world super league. As for the ending, I was WTF? That simply cannot be, mouth hanging open, in shock. Genius, pure genius. If you like horror, you're going to love this book and I'm really proud to recommend it.

A really good horror story
I don’t listen to many audiobooks but there is something quite joyous about having a book read to you. To be honest this is not a book that I would have picked up to read as I generally avoid horror but I really enjoyed listening to it. I have listened to other books narrated by Jake Urry and knew that I would like listening to his voice but I’m genuinely surprised how much I enjoyed the story so maybe Ambrose Ibsen has converted me to horror. There was a great build of tension as the book progressed and an ending that was worth waiting for.
