About this listen
MEET MARCUS VALERIUS, THE LEGENDARY HERO.
'A master of the genre' The Times
Marcus Valerius Aquila has scarcely landed in Britannia when he has to run for his life - condemned to dishonourable death by power-crazed emperor Commodus.
The plan is to take a new name, serve in an obscure regiment on Hadrian's Wall and lie low until he can hope for justice.
Then a rebel army sweeps down from the wastes north of the Wall, and Marcus has to prove he's hard enough to lead a century in the front line of a brutal, violent war.
Thrilling, authentic and action-packed, Wounds of Honour launched the incredible EMPIRE series, and catapulted Anthony Riches to the very top of the historical adventure genre.
Editorial reviews
Meet Marcus Valerius Aquila, brave centurion and condemned hero, in Book One Wounds of Honour, written by Anthony Riches and read by professional narrator Saul Reichlin. Marcus is in hiding from the Imperial Army who executed his father. He takes on an alias and lives in secret among the outcasts of Hadrian’s Wall. Then fate catches up with him and he must soon come out of the shadows to lead an entire army into war against the rebels. His path is wrought with danger but he fights for victory, justice and honour.
And This is definitely it! I'll admit it started a but slow but most first books do but as it all came together for the massive ending it was definitely worth it.
On to Empire II. 👍

But the main protagonist (Marcus) sounds a tad effeminate. Very engrossing story telling.
A story spoken with great enthusiasm...

Settled into this, willing myself not to turn it off. A very difficult challenge indeed

But I just can’t continue with it.
And worse still I cannot tell if it’s the writing or the performance.
I mean, these people have worked hard on this, I hate that I hate it.
I feel bad about this
