Story
Long before the beginning of recorded time, there stood the world of Azeroth. Every kind of magical being strode the countryside among the tribes of man, and all was at peace - until the arrival of the demons and horrors of the Burning Legion and their baneful Lord Sargeras, dark god of chaotic magic. Now Dragons, Dwarves, Elves, Goblins, Humans, and Orcs all vie for supremacy across the scattered kingdoms - part of a grand, malevolent scheme that will determine the fate of the world of The Guardians of Tirisfal: a line of champions imbued with godlike powers.

Publisher's Summary
Though the young Warchief Thrall ended the demon curse that had plagued his people for generations, the orcs still wrestle with the sins of their bloody past. As the rampaging Horde, they waged a number of devastating wars against their perennial enemy - the Alliance. Yet the rage and bloodlust that drove the orcs to destroy everything in their path nearly consumed them as well. Long ago, on the idyllic world of Draenor, the noble orc clans lived in relative peace with their enigmatic neighbors, the draenei.
But the nefarious agents of the Burning Legion had other plans for both of the unsuspecting races. The demon-lord Kil’jaeden set in motion a dark chain of events that would succeed not only in eradicating the draenei, but would forge the orc clans into an single, unstoppable juggernaut of hatred and destruction. An original tale of magic, warfare, and heroism based on the best-selling, award-winning electronic game series from Blizzard.

Story was good, reader not quite.
The author read this, which I hoped would lean towards a great experience , but Christie could not sell the angry or ferocious Orc. I felt I was listening to a story being read, and not caught up inside the story itself. The story was good, just lacking the performance I’d gotten used to with Audible.

Extraordinary Story, Narration needs improvement
I'm not one to give bad feedback but in my honest opinion this was a hard one to get through, Christie Golden your story was amazing, the narration however was very tough to stay focused on, I found it very monotone which followed through the entirety of the story, I caught myself getting easily distracted and missing large chunks of the story, then having to go back and listen to a chapter again. It wasn't just the narration but the "Quality" of it, I have no idea what equipment was used to record this but there is a vast difference between this book and the previous one. It was hard to listen to this in headphones, as particular words ended in very sharp notes, I do not recommend headphones. I do want to make it clear though, This is a fantastic story . Christie Golden did an amazing job, I just wish hearing her narration matched the emotions in her story.

Amazing story; boring narration.
Christie Golden has helped shape the Warcraft universe as we know it today and making amazing books and story but her narration is just boring and flat. It sounds like the text to speech communication bot 90% of the time with some attempts at accents for the characters.

good narration
I will echo whatever one else has so far. Christie Goldens reading is top notch, and she reads with tenderness and emotion at times. Please note if your here because you want to follow up after watching Warcraft. The movie is not part of Warcraft canon. It doe not exist within the lore because it never happened. This book is the first novel in the world of warcraft and is continued in the Lord of the Clans followed by the Last Guardian and then beyond the Dark Portal. Listening to or reading in this order keeps the lore straight forward and your not missing anything lore related. There are many more novels / audiobooks in this series, but not all of them are strict canon, for example the traveler's series. They are set in the time period but they have actually nothing to do with the lore, just stand alone stories.

Great instalment
This is a book you will definitely appreciate. The main protagonist is Durotan - Thrall's father. You will hear how everything started. You will meet Gul'dan as a shaman as well as becoming the first warlock among his tribe, the Orcs. Everybody that you expect to hear about, and has been a part of the Horde history, will be on this magnificent story. Sargeras will be there too.. I loved Christie's writing and narration. I laughed when she imitated the Ogres. Her accent on different species was spot on. I can honestly say that this book made me a fan of audio books. Would definitely recommend to any avid warcraft enthusiast. Not sure how someone not familiar with warcraft would find this book as the names wouldn't bare any weight i would assume. If you are looking for forgotten realms / warhammer alternatives, this might seem dull and a bit generic possibly.

LOK'TAR OGAR!!!
Christie working her magic as usual. The story truly captures the...for lack of better words "humane" side of the horde that blizzard seem to have left out in the early start of WOW's years. All characters are interesting and no one feels two dimensional, their flaws and perfections all shine here, from Durotan's stubborn clinging to the old ways to Gul'dan's admission. Everything was amazing and only ads to the depth of the game's lore. Chirstie Golden for warchief!!!

A great story with VERY unfitting narration
I would love this book to read. But listening to Christie Golden narrate it was just frustrating and awkward. I made it about 3/4 through before having to stop for a while and listen to something else. This is the story of how Orcs and Draenei came to, basically, hate each other. Strong, savage, rough orcs. Proud, manly, righteous Draenei. Christie Goldens voice just isn't able to convey these characters.. This isn't her fault, but it sounds like children are playing the parts of every character. But the main problem I have with the reading is that Christie Golden is too dramatic; there is no natural conversation whatsoever in this book. The narrator is even worse, each line is read as if it is doing a political speech on a podium, or making a plea for a charity, the final words trailing off, quieter and quieter. It gets pretty unbearable. Listen to the sample, if you think you can listen to this for 11 hours, get it. It's a great story. Otherwise... avoid.
