Publisher's Summary

Though the young Warchief Thrall ended the demon curse that had plagued his people for generations, the orcs still wrestle with the sins of their bloody past. As the rampaging Horde, they waged a number of devastating wars against their perennial enemy - the Alliance. Yet the rage and bloodlust that drove the orcs to destroy everything in their path nearly consumed them as well. Long ago, on the idyllic world of Draenor, the noble orc clans lived in relative peace with their enigmatic neighbors, the draenei.

But the nefarious agents of the Burning Legion had other plans for both of the unsuspecting races. The demon-lord Kil’jaeden set in motion a dark chain of events that would succeed not only in eradicating the draenei, but would forge the orc clans into an single, unstoppable juggernaut of hatred and destruction. An original tale of magic, warfare, and heroism based on the best-selling, award-winning electronic game series from Blizzard.

Good book

Although she is the author, I’m not as crazy about her performance. Would have preferred Scott Brick. Still overall it was a decent performance and a good book.

Shouldn't be missed out on

Loved it. Didn't want it to end. Gives you a nice in-depth look at the carnage back on Draenor.

Moving Performance

I love this book to begin with and was very happy to pick up an audio version to listen to at work. Not only is her writing phenomenal, but she did a fantastic job reading. As with any voice actor, there are certain parts that don't always fit the voice but every single scene with Velen was spot on. You could feel Velen's ancient pain through her words during the events of Shattrath. Her voice broke in all the right ways and really made you feel the words. I don't know how to describe it perfectly, but its a line I'll always remember, now.

Let Christie tell you a story

Wonderfully written, and read by the author, this is a must read for any WoW lore fans. Told by Thrall, an unreliable narrator, this is the story of the formation of the Horde on Draenor. Some details we know to be different from Thrall's telling, but it is fascinating both from a RL perspective to see how the story evolved, and from an in game perspective to see how legends are born.

great story for a fan getting into the old lore

I have to say this was amazing. I've been getting into all the audio books on warcraft and nearly flipped out in excitement. Not only have I been wanting to read this book but having Christie Golden read her own book was perfect.

Rise Of The Horde review

Christie golden writes wonderful books but she does not narrate them the best she did and all right job but they're better narrators for the World of Warcraft books

Great lore book.

If you dont know the foundational Warcraft lore, then this book is a must. Not the most exciting book, it certainly is more character dialogue than anything. But it is performed well by the author, she does a good job with the voices throughout. Tells the story of the Orcs of Draenor, and how they went from Shamanistic and Honor driven to Corrupted and Bloodthirsty. If your looking to get into the Warcraft series and learn the lore, this is a good place to start.

A Masterpiece.

I found myself on the edge of sleep many times I has listened but did not want to fall to its clutches, So continue I did thus I did not sleep much during my time with this book. My only petty criticism is that the Words of Thrall were not spoken by Chris Metzen himself who voices the Character in Game and for whome Mrs. Golden dedicates this work to. As I begin the journey deep into the lore of a universe I hold very dear, it is with enthusiastic ears and a hungering desire that I look forward. I look forward to not only the next Book by Golden but the next book which shares a universe so vividly brought to life by such a skilled author.

Good lore, voice performance lacking

I'm generally quite a fan of Christie golden's books, however her voice acting is somewhat lacking, appreciated the effort but draenei and orc characters respectively were hard to distinguish between eachother

Surprisingly Good

Wanted to listen to more of the more of World of Warcraft and this book is a good starting point! Different to the movie a bit and with more detail. Going to pick up the 2nd one now!

Was a bit sceptical at first with a female narrator only due to the orcs having deep gruff voices but Christie Golden does a great job. Bonus points as she's also the author!
