Publisher's Summary

The sequel to the number one best seller, Jimmy Barnes' unforgettable childhood memoir, Working Class Boy.

It’s a life too big and a story too extraordinary for just one book. Jimmy Barnes has lived many lives - from Glaswegian migrant kid to iconic front man, from solo superstar to proud father of his own musical clan. In this hugely anticipated sequel to his critically acclaimed best seller, Working Class Boy, Jimmy picks up the story of his life as he leaves Adelaide in the back of an old truck with a then unknown band called Cold Chisel.

A spellbinding and searingly honest reflection on success, fame and addiction, this self-penned memoir reveals how Jimmy Barnes used the fuel of childhood trauma to ignite and propel Australia’s greatest rock ’n’ roll story. But beyond the combustible merry-go-round of fame, drugs and rehab and across the Cold Chisel, solo and soul years, this is a story about how it’s never too late to try to put things right.

Inspirational!

Great listen, you actually feel like you are getting to know Jimmy and the world he rolls in.
If you have ever wondered why addicts and alcoholics do what they do or how some people can be spiritually bereft dispite being outwardly successful t hgen this is the book for you.
do not be put oiff be Jimmy filling the narrators spot at it lends the book authenticity and rest assured that Jimmy attacks the job with gusto.
He isn't as smooth as a professional actor but he was better than solid and really sounded good.

a superb listen. Couldn't put these books down.

I thoroughly enjoyed these two books. There is so much more to his life than I was previously aware. I especially appreciated the raw honesty - it feels like Jimmy has laid it all bare.

Courage

I grew up listening to Cold Chisel and Jimmy Barnes, knowing he was a hard man in the music business, but never knowing the real story behind the man.
I commend Jimmy for submitting his account to the world.
His songs have moved moved for years, but this book has moved me more. Many of us haven’t had an easy road, but to open his life and tell his story in the way has has, with true openness and no holding back shows why he has created a legend in the music industry. His honestly laid out for all to see shows the courage he has, not just to become a music icon, but to become a REAL man. Congratulations Jimmy, loved this book, even better than the last.

Pure Bravery and Honesty

Despite all his mistakes, having read Working Class Boy and understanding the context that all lead up to it, you can’t help but empathise with Jimmy’s story and his humour, honesty and gratitude makes him a supremely likeable human. Thank you for sharing your story, Jimmy. It’s a stark reminder to not judge others as you never know even a fraction of what’s really going on in their life.

Raw and Honest

I tossed up whether to listen to the first book but went straight into this one. It was a very entertaining albeit honest and raw account of the Cold Chisel years. I admire the honesty shown by Jimmy in this story and am truly amazed he's still standing. Great read for anyone whether you're a fan or not.

true title . . .

bare bones, gritty and sometimes brutal account of a life lived by the lad of a poor immigrant family.
this could be the story of any one of the families living in an outer suburban area of Australia.
being read by the author gives it an authenticity that makes the recounting easy to listen to and which I found myself looking forward to picking up again . . .
regardless of your interest in Cold Chisel or Jimmy Barnes I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a good book to listen to.

Reality avoidance or drugged artificial reality?

Jimmy continues to describe his life and adventures as a rock singer as he travels the world seeking relief from the pain of childhood and all the running since then when nothing helps for long. Family provides minimal stability and friends join in the party. See how the rich and famous live. And die. And try to change.

frank and honest

I loved listening to Barnes tell his story. Extremely honest and frank, and raw, I never knew how much he struggled through his life but have always appreciated the soulfulness of his storytelling as a vocalist.
I especially loved hearing about the music industry in Australia with so many familiar names that have shaped the industry today. Really well done.
