Publisher's Summary

The sequel to the number one best seller, Jimmy Barnes' unforgettable childhood memoir, Working Class Boy.

It’s a life too big and a story too extraordinary for just one book. Jimmy Barnes has lived many lives - from Glaswegian migrant kid to iconic front man, from solo superstar to proud father of his own musical clan. In this hugely anticipated sequel to his critically acclaimed best seller, Working Class Boy, Jimmy picks up the story of his life as he leaves Adelaide in the back of an old truck with a then unknown band called Cold Chisel.

A spellbinding and searingly honest reflection on success, fame and addiction, this self-penned memoir reveals how Jimmy Barnes used the fuel of childhood trauma to ignite and propel Australia’s greatest rock ’n’ roll story. But beyond the combustible merry-go-round of fame, drugs and rehab and across the Cold Chisel, solo and soul years, this is a story about how it’s never too late to try to put things right.

Inspirational!

Great listen, you actually feel like you are getting to know Jimmy and the world he rolls in.
If you have ever wondered why addicts and alcoholics do what they do or how some people can be spiritually bereft dispite being outwardly successful t hgen this is the book for you.
do not be put oiff be Jimmy filling the narrators spot at it lends the book authenticity and rest assured that Jimmy attacks the job with gusto.
He isn't as smooth as a professional actor but he was better than solid and really sounded good.

a superb listen. Couldn't put these books down.

I thoroughly enjoyed these two books. There is so much more to his life than I was previously aware. I especially appreciated the raw honesty - it feels like Jimmy has laid it all bare.

Phew!

What an epic tale. So glad to have arrived at the happy ending (with just a tear or two 😪). How is this guy still alive?
The life of Jimmy Barnes truly is an incredible tale and I'm ever grateful for him having shared it so eloquently, as raw as it truly is.
Understanding the trials as well as the successes of Australian icons gives us all a perspective to help us also navigate, comprehend and overcome what belies us on our own journeys.
Thank you for your honesty and for not giving up.

Good glimpse

Another great book from Jimmy. Not quite as insightful as Working Class Boy (in my opinion), but an interesting glimpse into the rock and roll lifestyle nonetheless. Regardless of all the wrongs he has done, I finished these books feeling like he is a likeable man with a good heart and I wish him all the best.

Reality avoidance or drugged artificial reality?

Jimmy continues to describe his life and adventures as a rock singer as he travels the world seeking relief from the pain of childhood and all the running since then when nothing helps for long. Family provides minimal stability and friends join in the party. See how the rich and famous live. And die. And try to change.

frank and honest

I loved listening to Barnes tell his story. Extremely honest and frank, and raw, I never knew how much he struggled through his life but have always appreciated the soulfulness of his storytelling as a vocalist.
I especially loved hearing about the music industry in Australia with so many familiar names that have shaped the industry today. Really well done.
