Publisher's Summary

A unique look at women and girls with autism spectrum disorder.

The difference that being female makes to the diagnosis, life and experiences of a person with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD) has largely gone unresearched and unreported until recently. In this audiobook Sarah Hendrickx has collected both academic research and personal stories about girls and women on the autism spectrum to present a picture of their feelings, thoughts and experiences at each stage of their lives.

Outlining how autism presents differently and can hide itself in females and what the likely impact will be for them throughout their lifespan, the audiobook looks at how females with ASD experience diagnosis, childhood, education, adolescence, friendships, sexuality, employment, pregnancy and parenting, and aging. It will provide invaluable guidance for the professionals who support these girls and women and it will offer women with autism a guiding light in interpreting and understanding their own life experiences through the experiences of others.

Good information

I purchased this book willing to learn about the content. I have almost three years old daughter who expect to have ASD. This book give some knowledge and pictures of how they feel in life and how they can be for their future. It feels like shining light into the dark for one mother who have no experience in this matter.

validating examples of ASD in women and girls

Affirming and enlightening for women with ASD and the people who love them. I didn't realize I had ASD until adulthood, and I felt so seen by this book.

Life- changing

So helpful to someone who, at 41, was finally shown who I have always been. The narration is gentle and easy to listen to. Have already recommended it to others.

A beautiful, encouraging book for autistic women!

As a newly diagnosed autistic woman at age 21, this book was recommended to me by my psychologist- it made me feel seen, loved, and less alone, all at once! I would definitely recommend this to any other ASD women out there! Besides, the lady reading it does a great job - i loved the way she says book, lol!

Shining a light

Well worth listening to. So many girls and women are suffering in silence and there are options to make life better with just a little understanding and observation.
