Story
We all have a voice in our head. We tune into its endless chatter to look for guidance, ideas and wisdom. Except sometimes, this voice leads us down a rabbit hole of negative self-talk and endless rumination. These silent conversations are so powerful they can sink our mood, trip us up and even impact our health. How can we take back control? This is the question award-winning psychologist Ethan Kross set out to answer 20 years ago when he began an audacious mission - to study the conversations we have with ourselves.

Story
At the office of Safe Steps, Victoria's dedicated 24/7 family violence response call centre, phone counsellors receive a call every three minutes. Many women are repeat callers - on average, they will go back to an abusive partner eight times before leaving for good. 'You must get so frustrated when you think a woman's ready to leave and then she decides to go back,' I say. 'No,' replies one phone counsellor, pointedly. 'I'm frustrated that even though he promised to stop, he chose to abuse her again.'

Story
Fourteen years after being diagnosed with endometriosis, Gabrielle Jackson couldn't believe how little had changed in the treatment and knowledge of the disease. In 2015, her personal story kick-started a worldwide investigation into the disease by The Guardian; thousands of women got in touch to tell their own stories and many more read and shared the material. What began as one issue led Jackson to explore how women - historically and through to the present day - are under-served by the systems that should keep them happy, healthy and informed about their bodies.

Story
Clare Bowditch has always had a knack for telling stories. Through her music and performing, this beloved Australian artist has touched hundreds of thousands of lives. But what of the stories she used to tell herself? That 'real life' begins only once you're thin or beautiful, that good things happen only to other people. Your Own Kind of Girl reveals a childhood punctuated by grief, anxiety and compulsion and tells how these forces shaped Clare's life for better and for worse. This is a heartbreaking, wise and at times playful memoir.

Publisher's Summary
In February 2018, the Good Weekend cover story by David Leser 'Women, Men and the Whole Damn Thing', became one of the most talked-about and widely praised articles of the year. With an unprecedented response from readers both in Australia and around the world urging him to expand his story – this is the water-cooler book of the #MeToo era.
David Leser explores his own psyche and role in the patriarchy and how history has brought us to the #Metoo movement and its eruptions of female anger worldwide. Where did we go wrong? How do we navigate relationships now? And where to from here?
Critic Reviews
“Forces you to rethink almost everything you thought you knew about female/male relationships and plants a flag of hope for the future." (Matthew Condon)
“I want to hire a plane and air-drop this book onto every footy oval, boardroom, electoral offices and boys’ schools.” (Benjamin Law)
“Resolutely human. Wholly essential. Utterly unputdownable.” (Trent Dalton)

An eye opening book into the #MeToo movement.
This book was lightening, eye opening and terrifying. Leser tries to unravel sex, power, masculinity and violence as we see it today and hope we can change it for the better. definitely worth a read.

An amazingly informative narrative
I loved David Leser's narration and the messages he delivered. I have only just begun to explore this topic and I found david very easy to listen to and absorb.
Thanks for taking the time to read this David - I doubt anyone else could have delivered it in the same way.
