I'm a 64-year-old retired lawyer and former Assistant Attorney General with an unusual story to tell. Every word of it is true. It happened in a state park known as Devil's Den. For fear of losing my job and damaging my reputation in the legal community, I never spoke about the incident. If it hadn't happened to me, I'd be skeptical too. In 1977, I was an active duty NCO in the USAF. A friend and I planned a two-night camping trip to explore the wilderness. We drove deep into the forest until we came to a high plateau. There on the horizon sat a perfect triangle of three very bright stars....

The witnesses are legion, scattered across the world and dotted through history, people who looked up and saw something impossible lighting up the night sky. What those objects were, where they came from, and who - or what - might be inside them is the subject of fierce debate and equally fierce mockery, so that most who glimpsed them came to wish they hadn't. These follow-up events are the work of a powerful group hidden deep within the military and the intelligence community. It is the secret agenda of this highly classified organization to figure out what the so-called Grays are really up to. The best way for the government to get the answers is to interrogate those who have come face-to-face with the UFO phenomenon: the abductees.

Story
The biggest lie in history is about to be shattered. UFOs are real. In late June of 1947, three extraterrestrial craft were downed outside Roswell Air Force Base. Many more followed, revealing dozens of ET species and a Rosetta Stone to a new physics, an energy generation and propulsion system responsible for interstellar space travel. This new system could have easily replaced oil, gas, coal, and nuclear plants - and with them, the entire geopolitical and economic order on our planet. But a cabal of bankers, the military-industrial complex, and Big Oil stopped it.

Story
As we approach the 70th anniversary of the most significant UFO event of all time, best-selling author Donald R. Schmitt takes a fresh look at the renowned incident. Previous books on Roswell, including his, have focused on the witnesses, their families, and the history of the case. Cover-Up at Roswell catalogs the extreme measures the US government exercised to suppress the truth. How they silenced military witnesses clearly demonstrates their need to prevent the facts from leaking out.

The best book on the world's most famous UFO case.
I had just finished reading the print edition when I saw the audio version available, featuring one of my favorite narrators, Eric Summerer. I immediately bought it, and I listened to it straight through. WOW - it is immensely enjoyable and definitely the best book ever written about the world's most famous UFO case - the reported crash of a UFO near Roswell, New Mexico, in July 1947. It contains the eyewitness testimony of hundreds of persons living in the Roswell area at the time, and the tale they tell is amazing. I cannot envision anyone reading or listening to this book with an open mind - and still thinking the Roswell case is untrue.

Made me a believer!
Although I have had an interest in UFO stories since I was a pre-teen, it was more wishful thinking than anything. As far as Roswell stories, I was puzzled as to why they just didn't fade away. After listening to this book, I truly believe the Roswell incident did involve a crash of an extraterrestrial vehicle. Everything rings true including the government coverup and particularly the death threats to keep witnesses quiet. I do believe this is just how our government would act once they convinced themselves it was a matter of national security.
The information in this book speaks for itself. It makes me really angry that a handful of people can decide to keep this information from the rest of the world.
If you are at all curious about this subject, give this book a try. It is well-written and expertly narrated. Then, decide for yourself. Make an informed decision.

The Most Careful and In-Depth Report on Roswell
What did you love best about Witness to Roswell?
The solid journalistic and investigative research that supported every statement in the book. Remember, the authors originally initiated their investigation in order to DEBUNK the Roswell UFO incident once and for all. But the more they investigated, the more that creepy evidence for the event itself, and its shockingly brutal coverup by the U.S. government, became clear, until their finished product (the first version of this book) ended up being 180 degrees different in its findings and conclusions, from what they expected when they began. I also appreciated their "trial of the facts to a jury" approach: what is the evidence on each side, and who has the preponderance of the evidence? Finally (finally!), someone has called the debunkers on their claims of "it's just circumstantial evidence" and "it relies only on eyewitness testimony." These are perfectly valid forms of evidence in any court of law - people have even been sentenced to death based on this very type of evidence! What makes this evidence so flimsy in the minds of the debunkers? Hmm? True, the Roswell incident does not rise to the level of "scientifically-established fact" (and how very many things we all routinely rely on in our day-to-day lives which do not), but the "alien theory" would actually be the hands-down winner in any court of law that heard all the available evidence. And this book, more than any other available on the subject, presents ALL the available evidence.
What other book might you compare Witness to Roswell to and why?
"The Roswell Legacy," by Jesse Marcel's son, Jesse Marcel, Jr., for further support that what the highly-trained Major Jesse Marcel originally found and reported was not the "foil, balsa wood and string" of a weather balloon, but materials never before recorded as having been encountered. The focus of that book is tighter, not as panoramic, focusing more on Major Marcel's discovery, the unique materials found at the impact site, his initial report and subsequent coerced "retraction" news conference, and the effect all this had on him and his family for the rest of his life.
What does Eric Michael Summerer bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Absolutely perfect narration and emphasis for this book.
What’s the most interesting tidbit you’ve picked up from this book?
The horrific, unconstitutional and illegal treatment of private citizens (such as death threats to a 12-year-old girl, among many others!) by the military, in order to silence any talk about -- a crashed weather balloon??
Any additional comments?
For the listener (as no doubt for the reader), this can get to be dry, stale and repetitive in places. Despite my intense interest in the subject, I found myself glazing over at several sections. (That may have had as much to do with the time of day and the low caffeine level in my bloodstream, I don't know.) That said, for its sheer comprehensive treatment of the subject (and it's many startling and engaging sections), this book deserves no less than all 5 stars. With the many first-hand and even second-hand witnesses starting to pass away, this book may (sadly) represent the "final, best record" on the Roswell UFO incident (much as I believe "Columbine" by Dave Cullen is going to represent the "final, best record" for the Columbine massacre).

Interesting, but lacking and biased
Interesting. While I generally believe pretty much everything the authors say, I don't think they did a convincing argument. They put full credibility in any witness statements that support their viewpoints, while downplaying any opposition. The authors tell you (the reader) several times how easily their evidence would stand up in court, yet they really didn't present evidence that would stand up that way. So it was an interesting listen, but didn't really change my mind in either direction.
As a side note, I am very surprised that audible didn't use any editors on this. After the book is finished, the last half hour is a repeat of chapter 27. There were other small skips and repeats in it too, but to repeat a full chapter was amazing.

What did you like best about this story?
Interviews with eye witnesses weren't embellished to make the story better. Many of the accounts, ironically, produced more believability by exposing emotions of a nature of what you'd expect from normal people. Some people had nothing to say. Thats normal. Sometimes the message is in the way you completely change your life to cope. That also speaks volumes.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Especially interesting and eyeopening is the testimonial of a career officer who reveals his story in a notarized letter to his family after his death. I don't know of many respected souls who would work their whole life to build respect so that it could be thrown away in one instant. I suppose the military and government
Any additional comments?
I didn't expect much from this book after reading reports in the last 15 years, that the USAF had re-evaluated Roswell and come up with findings that showed no new evidence proved anything but that a weather balloon crashed and that

Roswell - The Answer?
Having read and listened, on podcasts, to an awful lot about Roswell and the UFO subject I decided to give this audio book a go because it was recommended to me, as a book, by another enthusiast. What can I say, an awful lot of information, well linked together and seemingly leading to the direction people want, UFO landings/crashes and a government cover up. There's a lot of info here that I'd never heard of before and I'd like to have it confirmed by other sources but in general, is this the truth, because its certainly thorough and full in depth and detail. The final part had me gripped and I must admit a shiver went up my spine and a big smile emerged on my face. You listen, You decide.

Comprehensive account of a mystery
What made the experience of listening to Witness to Roswell the most enjoyable?
Something significant happened at Roswell. There is no doubt about that. Recent accounts suggest it was a deliberate and perverse hoax in an effort by Stalin to cause panic in America in revenge for the US sheltering Nazi war criminals responsible for slaughtering and conducting inhuman experiments on Russian soldiers and civilians. The US military was well versed in cover ups for similar events on the west coast during WW2 (Japanese balloon bombs) However the scale of effort in keeping this event quiet and covering it up really does suggest something different. Witness to Roswell describes the scale of the cover up really well. You have to remember though it was 1947, the start of the UFO phenomena and at a time when captured Nazi weaponry and technology was being tested by the US military. This technology itself was 'alien' in the skies over the US but not necessarily from another planet.

Fabulous, loads of facts
This book is a huge mass of facts and witness reports. IS was amazing that all those people saw all those things and the government covered it up - why?

An unbelievable believable story
The Narrator was excellent, the story is spell binding. The one thing that spoilt it was the last chapter being repeated and there is no appendix

Credit return ⚠️
What three words best describe Eric Michael Summerer’s voice?
Professional, rhythm, tone.
Any additional comments?
A barrage of the same information over and over again. I've listened to 4 hours so far and what's been said could have been covered in 30 minutes. I'm persevering but my mind is boggling with names, locations and events.
I just can't grasp the bigger picture. May be better suited to someone who already knows the 'official story', location and events. It is investigative but as you might expect is biased towards alien activity, I would prefer a more balanced approach to view the information as credible.
The reader is the well paced type of narrator is who talks with a set rhythm and set tone.
For me this was a waste of a precious credit but I feel restricted in asking for a refund as audible have rescinded my right to automatically return books. SO the warning ⚠️ is think carefully about buying a book you're not sure about as there is a limit on the number of books you can return as stated by Audible: –
'..........As an Audible Member, you can return audiobooks you are not completely satisfied with and choose another, but we may limit how many books you can return online. This limit varies based on the number of returns you've already made, and the timing of your return. When online returns are not available, you can contact us directly .......'

shameful.
I believe that this is true and it is absolutely typical of the behaviour of men in power ( government ) to cover up their own wrong doings and to enforce and be in charge of how people live their own lives. Threats of death is no surprise. Hopefully some family member somewhere will refuse to be pushed around by them and go public. I am saddened by the misery caused to all the inocent people and to the poor remaining survivor. God Bless.
