Poor little rich kid Harrison Trudel is fabulously wealthy, highly competent running his father’s company, but thanks to a stipulation in his father’s will, he never knows if people like him or just want him for his money. When a stalker starts to ramp up the threats and physical attacks, Harrison’s uncle employs Cobalt Security, who send in their grumpy, mouthy best: Ryder Freeman. Initially Harrison can’t stand the gruff, aggressive bodyguard but he soon warms to the man who always makes him feel safe. As the danger increases, Ryder knows he can’t let personal feelings distract him but the more time he spends with Harrison, the more impressed he is with this alluring young man.

I was totally prepared for the bodyguard / client romance, but I wasn’t expecting the action / suspense to be so riveting—the scenes of menace and danger really drew me in. There were a bazillion red herrings and unlikeable possible suspects and I loved how these just kept me guessing right up to the big reveal. I especially loved the scenes where Ryder takes Harrison to his family cabin and when they visit Ryder’s family: they were nice interludes from the tension. This bordered on instalove because the timeframe was so short. That’s not my favourite thing but the action / suspense totally made up for it and I will definitely chase up more in this series. 🎧 Voice actor Declan Winters gave a strong audio performance and I could always differentiate between his voicing of Harrison and Ryder. Plus he was great at making the unlikeable characters sound unlikeable!
