THE SUNDAY TIMES BESTSELLER

‘Impossible to read with dry eyes or an unaltered mindset’ Sunday Times

‘Illuminating and beautiful’ Cathy Rentzenbrink

With the End in Mind is a book for us all: the grieving and bereaved, the ill and the healthy. By turns touching and tragic, funny and wise, it tells powerful human stories of life and death.

Eric, the retired head teacher who even with Motor Neurone Disease gets things done. Sylvie, 19 and diagnosed with leukaemia, sewing a cushion for her mum to hold after she has died. Nelly and Joe, two people enduring loneliness to shield their beloveds from distress.

A powerful and emotional book based on a lifetime’s clinical experience, With the End in Mind offers calm, wise advice on how to face death, live fully and find a model for hope in dark times.

Kathryn Mannix’s With the End in Mind was a Sunday Times bestseller the weeks ending 6 January 2018, 13 January 2018 and 3 February 2018.

Dr Mannix successfully navigates the complexity of the responses of the human spirit in the inevitable period before one leaves this existence. The content is explored with grace, sensitivity and great understanding. Compulsory reading for anyone in the medical field and certainly important for those who are not. A treasure.

made me appreciate life and the life of those I love. I loved it. We do need to have the end in mind as we tend to forget the constant opportunity of living

My palliated sister asked our family to read this book, to help us understand her state of mind, priorities and road ahead.
Thanks to this book I will be able to enjoy our remaining time together a lot more, and I'll probably be less annoying to her, with incorrect assumptions and pointless fears.

Incredibly helpful

Both heartwarming and gut wrenching. Reader is very nice to listen to and has a clear voice. Short episodic-ish chapters make for easy listening that doesn’t always work as well with longer chapters / serial stories. Would definitely recommend.

What an excellent book. As a health professional this book gave me the confidence to talk and think about death, and as a person, it gave me the reminder I needed to cherish every moment.

Beautifully crafted book. I laughed and cried at some of these case presentations.
I very much enjoyed the truthfulness of what a hospice death can be.
