Jael Furyck isn’t happy. Her father is dead. Her uncle has stolen the throne.

And now, her uncle wants to marry her off to the fallen son of her arch-enemy. But Jael is a battle-hardened warrior, trained to kill since she was 10-years-old. She doesn’t plan on being anyone’s wife.

Eadmund Skalleson is drunk. His father is threatening him with a wife again. And this time he’s given him an ultimatum. Marry Jael Furyck or your brother returns from exile. But if Eadmund was ever going to choose a wife, it wouldn’t be Jael Furyck. Not her. Not ever.

Winter’s Fury is the first book in The Furyck Saga, a gripping epic-fantasy series that takes you into a richly woven world of warring kingdoms, mysterious dreamers, dark magic, and an ancient prophecy that emerges from the shadows to weave a dangerous web around them all....

I'm surprised this series hasn't gotten more attention, on audible at least. Perhaps because Norse fantasy traditionally gets a lot of male readers and strong women are central to this story, and there's a heavy focus on relationships. The performance really does it justice. Finty Williams gets the dialogue and the atmosphere just right and her voice is very listenable. The third person omniscient perspective did throw me a bit here and there, but I got used to it. It's very well written and perfect for those who enjoy a slower pace, character focus and a long-haul epic story, because we're barely scratching the surface in book 1.

Great characters, strong setup for a long saga

Found the story a bit slow at first. Almost gave up but it improved enough to finish the series. The MC had to endure too much for my liking. The follow up series was even worse . I gave up after the 2nd book. Not a series I will listen to again most likely.

Slow to start. Too many setbacks.
