Die Fotografin Katrin Sandmann verschwindet nach einem Shoppingtrip mit einer langjährigen Freundin spurlos, als im Rheinland durch einen plötzlichen Wintereinbruch das Chaos ausbricht. Am selben Nachmittag flieht der brutale Frauenmörder Mario Brindi aus der Klink für Psychiatrie und Psychotherapie. Die Polizei glaubt nicht daran, dass die beiden Fälle zusammenhängen, doch als kurze Zeit später die grauenvoll zugerichtete Leiche einer jungen Frau gefunden wird, ist es vielleicht schon zu spät für Katrin. Hat der Täter erneut zugeschlagen?
