Publisher's Summary

He's the boy from the wrong side of the tracks. She's the pickle fortune heiress. They had an innocent summer fling, then she made a catastrophic mistake, and he paid the price....

Cassidy Kimbell knows Torque didn’t have to lie and serve her time. Because of his sacrifice, she’s spent the last 10 years making some major changes in her life. She’s become a lawyer and a child advocate, always fighting for the underdog. Still, she can’t keep herself from feeling like she owes the man who made it all possible. But he won’t tell her what he wants.

After being released from a 10-year prison stint for a crime he didn’t commit, Torque Baxter is eager to get back to working on his passion - diesel motors. Except the out-of-date Popular Mechanics magazines provided by the prison weren’t enough to keep him competitive, and no one wants to hire a convict with a rap sheet, no matter how undeserving it is.

Cassidy thinks she owes him and doesn’t realize there’s only one thing he’s ever wanted. What do 10 years of a man’s life cost?

Trucking never interested me...until this series.

I am SO glad I took the chance to read this book because just shortly in, I was hooked. A unique story line that shows that life can be as sweet as it is tough. Ingrained character & trust will help you arrive.
Cassidy and Torque have a unique backstory that unfolds slowly. He served a ten year prison sentence that rightfully belonged to her. This shook her to the core of her privileged upbringing causing her to make the most out of the life that his sacrifice has allowed her to live. She has stretched herself & has a responsible caring heart for those around her. When Torque is released, his rap sheet places a lot of restrictions on his future. He is hardworking, gentlemanly & caring. Surrounded by a loving family & caring friends, can he rebuild a life & maybe even attain some of his dreams?
There are a lot of ups & downs, humor & situations that pull at your heartstrings. The characters are well developed and believable. This story is definitely worth picking up...you will be hooked & ready then to meet the next Baxter boys.
Audio books have long been my favorite way to read...sitting there as a professional pulls you into the story. Patricia Ricketts did a wonderful job narrating this story! Just as a cover picture can help you visualize a story, her narration feels like it is part of the story. Although I received an audio copy from the author, I had already fallen in love with the entire series & the audio made it even better.

Amazing story that touches your heart!

I absolutely cried through this story!

Cassidy and Torque has so much going for them, but even more going against them.... Cassidy wants Torque's forgiveness, but he only wants her love. Add in an adorable boy and a pair of cutie pie twins, Torque finds everything he could ever want but doesn't think he can have.

Jessie Gussman writes with so much emotion! You find yourself with tears of happiness, sorrow, and frustration. Then your heart smiles with the love.

Patricia Ricketts delivers a beautiful narration of this story. You can feel the emotion of the words through her performance.

problematic character changes

Audio:
There is some difficulty following the character switches - you have to pay close attention to the dialogue to catch them all. In addition you have to pay attention to catch the perspective changes. But, I still thoroughly enjoyed it.
This story really does break your heart many times.

Story:
Wow. Amazing!! This book had so many ups and downs, my heart sure got a good workout! The characters - those from the prequel and more - are just wonderful. Not perfect people, but perfect characters. The themes in this book of reintegration after incarceration and the stigmas you fight, adoption, and more are all really well done. This book was truly great and I can’t wait to read more of this series.

What a Powerful Love Story!

I was truly blessed by reading this book. It was a story that stuck with me, under my skin and heart deep.
This story has a man, Torque, that humbles himself to live an underserved life, sacrifices himself, and in return he hopes that this sacrifice will protect the one he loves, that she will thrive.
The humble, sacrificial love pictured in this tale is a sweet reminder of Christ’s sacrifice for his bride, the church.
The performance was mostly very good. I enjoyed it. On a few occasions, it sounds like the narrator is reading in the wrong character’s voice and swings into a self-correct. It causes the momentum to drop a bit. There are a few words that she mispronounces.

Another great one from Jessie Gussman!

Jessie Gussman writes her first heartfelt, clean romance between Torque and Cassidy. Attracted as teens, and torn apart with tragedy, they are brought back together amidst many troubling problems. Each problem is intriguing and makes the couple seem real.

The reading by Patricia Ricketts is just that -- a reading. While I found it enjoyable, it wasn't a dramatic reenactment with different vocalizations, like I've come to expect with my audible books. And, she mispronounced several words. I still ended up liking her overall.

Loved the story, not the narrator

I loved this story but it was hard to get through it with the narrator. Sometimes it was hard to distinguish if it was a character speaking, which character, or a narration. Her voice wasn’t distinctive enough in my opinion. The story itself was very enjoyable, and the characters really kept me interested in what will happen to them next. I really liked how the writer took what seemed to be an impossible situation and still have a HEA. I look forward to the rest of the series!

Redemption & Love

I really, really love this story. He takes her punishment, which she doesn't understand. It takes them a while to figure things out but their true loving characters & love for 3 foster kids make such a good story. I thought things were going to fall through but then they got their HEA. I received a free copy from the author. I love listening to audible books. This is my voluntary review.
