Story
Charlotte McBee knows she’s in for a challenge when she accepts a job as midwife for a dragon and a phoenix shifter. Being a fairy herself, it isn’t the supernatural world that scares her. It’s the thought of delivering a giant metal dragon’s egg, which has her gritting her teeth in pain for poor Jillian, the anxious mother-to-be. While preparing for the big event, a handsome town resident catches her eye. Leonard is kind, charming, and a little bit mysterious. He’s also suffering from a highly unusual condition brought on by an ancient fairy curse.

Of course, no one loves a singles' buffet quite like a pack of vampires. Only, they're not there for the dark-roast coffee and homemade sticky buns.

I’ve got a ring on my finger and a date circled on the calendar, let the wedding planning begin! As luck would have it, the little wooded chapel I’ve got my heart set on is plagued by the not-so-nice spirit of a former bride. She died on what was meant to be her wedding day and isn’t going to step aside to let anyone else take her place at the altar. She claims the chapel is cursed and points to her own murder as a sure sign, but I’m not convinced.

The first rule of being a ghost whisperer: Don't tell anyone. Seriously. Don't. Sure, it might sound harmless. A fun party trick, even. I assure you, it's not. How do I know? Well, let's just say that I've had a lot of experience with this sort of thing, and nine times out of 10, it turns into an all-consuming disaster.

Story
Scarlet Sanderson isn't a paranormal being per se, but she's no stranger to things that go bump in the night. She's had the ability to see and speak with ghosts since she was eight years old. Whether it's a gift or a curse is still up for debate. She moved to the picturesque town of Beechwood Harbor to open a flower shop and start a new life after years of being a nomad. What she didn't expect to find was a town filled with witches, vampires, shape-shifters, and ghosts. So, so many ghosts.
Publisher's Summary
A drop of poison is all it takes to bring the biggest wedding of the season to its knees.
Anastasia Winters adheres to the adage that the show must go on, but when the groom of her latest wedding drops dead before "I do," she's left with no backup plan.
Things get even stickier when her friend and esteemed caterer, Francois, is named the top suspect.
Ana's loyalties are tested as the investigation turns into a vicious tug-of-war. She believes Francois is innocent, but holding the other side of the rope is the lead detective - her serious boyfriend - and the more she struggles, the more her own chance at happily ever after starts to unravel.
It's up to Anastasia to find the killer, while gripping tightly to her relationships before they break and leave her with nothing.

Favorite Volume Yet Except For the Mystery Reveal
So although I had started as a naysayer of this series it has grown on me and in this volume I felt as though it hit it's stride. Anastasia, the wedding planner/witch/protagonist felt much more three dimensional and real in this volume and the dynamics with her partner, friends, work colleagues, and sister felt more developed by this point and not as stilted. There is some very satisfying moments that have been culminating for the whole series so far and I found myself rooting for and wanting to high five the character in moments. The mystery was more engaging to me in this one and the pace is fast so there is no drag in the story. The only thing that really, really killed it for me was the extremely contrived and unrealistic crescendo of the action and reveal of the mystery. I know there will always bit of break from reality in cozy mysteries but when the situation is so far out of the realm of what would ever really happen in any sort of police proceedings I get totally pulled out of the story and can't stop rolling my eyes. I think Danielle Garrett does a phenomenal job is addressing and working a much more realistic angle in her Beechwood Ghost Mystery series (which I 100% prefer over this series) but she seems to just not even try in The Touch of Magic Series. It is fun to see cross over characters of Holly from Beechwood Harbor Mysteries without you missing anything if you haven't read them. The magic element in these stories still seems more accessory then essential in these tales and I would really love to see more development with magic in the series overall. But again, I think this is the best volume of the series yet and for followers of Touch of Magic you will not be disappointed.
