Publisher's Summary

The story of a grisly triple murder in rural Australia - contemporary true crime at its best.

'The slaughter was extravagant and bloody. And yet there were people in the small town of Wedderburn in Central Victoria who, while they did not exactly rejoice, quietly thought that Ian Jamieson had done them all a favour.'

One fine Wednesday evening in October 2014, 65-year-old Ian Jamieson secured a hunting knife in a sheath to his belt and climbed through the wire fence separating his property from that of his much younger neighbour Greg Holmes.

Less than 30 minutes later, Holmes was dead, stabbed more than 25 times. Jamieson returned home and took two shotguns from his gun safe. He walked across the road and shot Holmes' mother, Mary Lockhart, and her husband, Peter, multiple times before calling the police.

In this compelling audiobook, Maryrose Cuskelly gets to the core of this small Australian town and the people within it. Much like the successful podcast S-Town, things aren't always as they seem: Wedderburn begins with an outwardly simple murder but expands to probe the dark secrets that fester within small towns, asking: is murder something that lives next door to us all?

Thoughtful and Understanding

A well read and insightful exploration of bloody murders. The author showed empathy and a nuance that sought to determine all sides of this human tragedy. Too, it was an understanding of the nobility of human emotion ranging from hatred, despair into the hope that comes from love.

One of the finest books I have listened through.

Captivating

A wonderfully written and narrated book about a horrible event in the small country town of Wedderburn. As someone who is a part time resident of this town, I found the portrayal of events and culture of the place accurate. The author does well in explaining backgrounds and possibilities which may have led to the killings, but does leave me still wondering why……..,as I’m sure it does her too

A well researched text

The amount of detail that we also put into this work is obvious from the start, and the way she sensitively dealt with the emotions of both sides is to be lauded.
At first, I thought it was going to be a text exonerating Ian Jamison, but I was wrong. And to be honest, I believe he murdered Greg Holmes, so then he could carry out his original task of murdering the Lockwoods. He’s obviously in the right place locked up in prison While I feel sorry for him, I think he’s a danger to society. His failure to take responsibility for what he did to the Lockwoods and Greg Holmes requires a certain psychopathic mentality that is cold and predatory.
One wonders why he didn’t walk away, but then he didn’t, and therefore three people were killed in the most horrific manner.
