When a cantankerous old woman dies at her home in the sleepy, picturesque village of Bamburgh, DCI Ryan doesn’t think much of it—except, that is, for the small matter of it having been his wife who happened to find her body. Then another body turns up amongst the sand dunes at the base of the mighty castle fortress, and he decides it can’t be a coincidence. Meanwhile, after a recent revelation about her sister, DC Melanie Yates’ quest to avenge her death is becoming an obsession—much to the concern of those around her.

Publisher's Summary
A trail of secrets. A dangerous discovery. A deadly turn.
Police officer Sebastian Clifford never planned on becoming a private investigator. But when a scandal leads to the disbandment of his London based special squad, he finds himself out of a job. That is, until his cousin calls on him to investigate her husband’s high-profile death, and prove that it wasn’t a suicide.
Clifford’s reluctant to get involved, but the more he digs, the more evidence he finds. With his ability to remember everything he's ever seen, he's the perfect person to untangle the layers of deceit.
He meets Detective Constable Bird, an underutilized detective at Market Harborough’s police force, who refuses to give him access to the records he’s requested unless he allows her to help with the investigation. Clifford isn't thrilled. The last time he worked as part of a team it ended his career. But with time running out, Clifford is out of options. Together they must wade through the web of lies in the hope that they’ll find the truth before it kills them.

I really enjoyed this audio book. The narrator was excellent and accentuated the different characters well. I would recommend this first book of the series to all readers but especially to those females who often feel that their employers overlook natural talent and have an eye for detail

GREAT BOOK TO JUST RELAX AND ENJOY
The storyline was simple but what keeps it interesting are the characters and the way they go about their investigation. I enjoyed the uncomplicatedness of the storyline along with the interaction between the two main characters.
The narrator was excellent.

Hard to Finish
I like Sally Rigby’s writing but this one was tough. The new girl, Birdy, is so unlikable she made my teeth clench. If I hadn’t been bored, I never would have finished. Sebastian is a good character, but I doubt he would have indulgently smiled at this disrespectful, entitled and immoral young woman who wants everyone to indulge her whims. She’s awful!

Fun and well done
All together a surprisingly good book. It has a fine, tight story with no glaring logic faults. The solution makes complete sense with no having to stretch the imagination to accept the conclusion. The characters are all likeable and real. The narration is pleasant, the editing flawless, and the sound quality pleasant for listening to on ear buds or open speaker. So in general, a great, fun, fast paced listen.

A family friendly Disney Channel style murder mystery if there ever was one.

Good book overall I enjoyed it.
This book was good but they changed the narrator and he turned Whitney Walker Geordie and some of his other voices were questionable. I personally prefer the lady who narrates the Cavendish and Walker series. Other than that the story was good and the characters progressed well through the book without losing the mystery storyline. I look forward to listening to the next one.
