The brand new epic romantasy series from the author of A Court This Cruel and Lovely, perfect for fans of Carissa Broadbent, Jasmine Mas, and Rebecca Yarros.

Narrated in duet style.

Life in the perilous Thorn district is a constant battle for Arvelle and her younger brothers.
Faced with an unthinkable choice, Arvelle makes a magically binding vow to do the impossible: kill the emperor, an ancient vampire created by the god Umbros.

But first, she must enter the Sundering—an arena where only the fastest, strongest, and deadliest survive long enough to be selected for the emperor’s elite guard.
As stakes rise and secrets emerge, she quickly draws the ire of the Primus, the powerful figure charged with protecting the emperor––while also finding herself depending on the enemy to hone her power ... The emporor's vampiric son.
To survive the arena and complete her mission, Arvelle must get to the bottom of a conspiracy that will change everything she thought she knew about herself—and the two vampires who are deeply entwined with her destiny…

Critic Reviews

The start of the next great franchise . . . a bit of everything that makes the genre what it is. The perfect mix of what audiences are interested in right now
Stacia Stark delivers an absolute banger of scorching romance, gladiatorial action, and vampire power dynamics. We Who Will Die sets a blistering pace from the first chapter, delivering epic fights, twisty intrigue, and high-stakes romance. One of my top reads of the year!

narrations were sublime. what a way to start 2026, 👏 voice pairing was a great choice. ,plot was face paced with out it feeling rushed, tad predictable at time, but the was a Fantasy with a solid romance subplot. will 100% be picking up book 2

great audio

This was a good read! I enjoyed the story, I did get a little lost with so many characters, but got there in the end and look forward to seeing where book 2 takes us

I really enjoyed this, I love the readers voice. The part I didn’t like was when she would have a flash back, though the readers voice would tilt higher for a moment, its just not noticeable enough that I couldn’t tell when it was the present or past at times. Otherwise this was an amazing read and can’t wait for the next one

I managed to not stop listening. I don't like when characters are always feeling sorry for themselves, unfortunately she was always being drawn back to past deaths ruining her life. The female voice over did a good job with the character and the male voice over was a good gritty voice. When the character would jump back to the past it was sometimes hard to follow and unclear what was happening until you get half way through the book and then you get use to it.

Was okay
