Would you consider the audio edition of Watching Edie to be better than the print version?
I can't comment as I haven't ready the print version. Having hear the audio version I'm sure I would have liked reading the print as well. Very good writing style. What did you like best about this story?
The narration is told in before and after/past and present. I love to find out the mystery of what has happened to change the course of people's lives. The 'before' part is told by Heather (the misfit stalker type) and is set in high school and the events around their friendship at that time. The 'after' part is set in the present and told by Edie (the recipient of Heather's highschool friendship, now estranged). In the present you are led to believe one thing, and you know something has happened in the past but you don't know what exactly. It sounds like simple obsession/high school fallout but it is more than that. I love how at the end the final "before" version is told by Edie. It blew me away as I did not expect what happened! Or the sympathy and sadness I felt.
The revelation was not something I expected so it shocked me and made me feel quite sad even now a few days later when I'm still thinking of the story! That, in my opinion, is a good story and good characterisation/plot!
Have you listened to any of Chloe Massey and Kathryn Griffiths ’s other performances? How does this one compare?
No but I would like to. The author who read Edie had a very nice voice. The author who read Heather did the portrayal very well. From the preview I got it was by her and I didn't love it, but it turns out the preview part was a teenage Heather talking in a bit of slang, so I'm glad I didn't judge it based on that as I wouldn't have bought it!Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The revelation at the end. Who is a reliable narrator? Who is responsible for the way people's lives turn out? Who is good and who is in the wrong? Whose side are you on throughout the story? That's all I will say without revealing anything.Any additional comments?
Easy to read/follow. Alternativey before/past and after/present from 2 perspectives, making up the full story. Sad in places but moving.Finished it 2 days ago, story is still with me!
