Klaus Bresser studierte Germanistik, Soziologie und Theaterwissenschaften in Köln, danach wurde er Chefreporter beim Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger. Beim WDR war er Redaktionsleiter u.a. für "Monitor" und den "Brennpunkt". 1977 wechselte Bresser zum ZDF, wo er wesentlich an der Konzeption des heute-journals beteiligt war - zunächst als Moderator und dann als Leiter.
