Publisher's Summary

An 18-year-old chieftain's daughter must find a way to kill her village’s oppressive deity if she ever wants to return home in Warrior of the Wild, the Viking-inspired YA standalone fantasy from Tricia Levenseller, author of Daughter of the Pirate King.

How do you kill a god?

As her father's chosen heir, 18-year-old Rasmira has trained her whole life to become a warrior and lead her village. But when her coming-of-age trial is sabotaged and she fails the test, her father banishes her to the monster-filled wilderness with an impossible quest: To win back her honor, she must kill the oppressive god who claims tribute from the villages each year or die trying.

Good

I love, love, LOVE Vikings. It’s a bit frightening sometimes. This story had just enough of the feel of them to satiate that desire. The MC is tough and I liked her character development. I enjoyed the story up until the romance actually transitioned into Couple Mode. I have a difficult time with romances because while I enjoy them, they tend to get in the way of the actual story and are usually pretty juvenile. This one was fine, if leaning to the “juvenile” side pretty hard.

The narrator was the element that almost made me place this amongst my DNF graveyard. She overacted EVERYTHING and was really annoying seven hours into it. It’s better than underacting, I suppose. For the intense parts, it was great. For everything else... eh.

A Wild Adventure

Another awesome book by Miss Levenseller. This one is different than her previous two pirate books.
Pros:
--The fast pace, you aren't bored.
--The twists and turns it takes. It was clever and original.
--The world she created. You have enough detail to understand and be immersed, without the pages of description that make you snooze. She did it just right.
--Our leading lady
--The romance ;)
--The narrator did a great job
--The action!

For my conservative readers or those listening with kids: there was very little swearing, and no F words. There was only one passionate kissing scene, and it didn't progress beyond there. There is a main character that is homosexual, with a partner, and they do kiss, though it isn't described in detail.

I really liked it and recommend it! It is a woman warrior book, but the audience isn't just for females; I think it's a book guys would enjoy as well. I think there's a bit of everything in there for everyone.

Great story with likable characters

Well written story with Nordic origins. Liked the depth and presentation of characters- but you have to keep listening to know that. The narrator is a little too drama queen for my liking, but not enough to ruin experience.

Wonderful!

The character development was astounding! I felt as if I was learning along with the main characters as they changed and grew. The romances were so mature and pure and sweet, absolutely my favorite kind. The action scenes had me fidgeting in my seat, as if I was personally involved in the characters dilemmas. I truly enjoyed this marvelous book!

Phenomenal book

I was so delightfully surprised by this book every step of the way. Easily one of the most compelling and strong female characters I've experienced in so long. I love that you can actually see the progress and depth of the characters with every step.

Fun concept that draws you in but...

The idea is similar to Hunger Games and Divergent. Also, too much of a modern agenda, "boys are dumb" and they need the princess/warrior to save them.
