Publisher's Summary

Sherlock Holmes is an unparalleled genius. Warlock Holmes is an idiot. A font of arcane power, certainly. But he's brilliantly dim. Frankly, he couldn't deduce his way out of a paper bag. The only thing he has really got going for him are the might of 1,000 demons and his stalwart companion.

Thankfully, Dr. Watson is always there to aid him through the treacherous shoals of Victorian propriety and save him from a gruesome death every now and again.

Critic Reviews

"A must for all those who like their Holmes on the wilder side." (George Mann, author of Sherlock Holmes: The Spirit Box)
"I laughed like a loon." (James Lovegrove, New York Times best-selling author of The Age of Odin)
"With more twists than a Victorian corset, this is Sherlock for the mash-up generation. Tongue-in-cheek, knowing tales, with dollops of Penny Dreadful and a side salad of Atlantis." (William Sutton, author of Lawless and the Devil of Euston Square)

If Conan Doyle and HP Lovecraft got drunk and wrote a book.

I initially thought it would be a single story rather than a collection of short stories. Not that I minded, it worked fine.

Don’t really expect anything Holmes like. It is clearly a parody and the supernatural element drops it firmly in Lovecraftian waters at times, which isn’t a bad thing. It is well written though especially the use of Victorian language and the period feel. It is also narrated excellently.

For a bit of light relief this is recommended an enjoyable parody, well written. I have certainly read a lot worse. I will most likely read the next book in the series.

Light listen. Pity about the narrator.

The book itself was fine - a little light entertainment with a supernatural nod to Sherlock Holmes. I disliked the narrator. His pronunciation wasn't good, I wasn't mad about his interpretations of the characters, but the most irritating thing for me was the pauses - random pauses in sentences, between paragraphs and so on - that I feel ought to have been edited out. The result was that the narration didn't flow well for me, which is a shame as I am sure that I missed a few interesting parts thanks to being distracted by the narration.

Enjoyable spoof

What did you like most about Warlock Holmes - A Study in Brimstone?

Watson and his slightly sarcastic comments

What was one of the most memorable moments of Warlock Holmes - A Study in Brimstone?

A lot of Watson's observations. Too many to mention

Any additional comments?

Downright silly at times, a little weak in spots. A very silly Holmes and a quite sarcastic Watson.I soon found myself interested in finding out how and what twists had been made to the original stories. The continuation boggles the mind and I am waiting for the next installment. No matter how silly it will get.

Warlock Holmes is something else...

Truer words were never spoken. This book is truly fantastic I loved every minute of it and probably will listen again straight away. As a fan of Holmes,Fantasy and turning things on it a head this is a must listen. Excellently narrated I laughed and roared at this book. If I could award 6 stars I would.

Worth a listen if you enjoy Sherlock Holmes

What made the experience of listening to Warlock Holmes - A Study in Brimstone the most enjoyable?

The narrators voice is very engaging particularly Dr Watson's voice and having just watched the new TV series of Sherlock Holmes found this book very enjoyable. I particularly enjoyed the comedic aspect of the book and it made me laugh quite a few times.

What does Robert Garson bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

I listen to audio books whilst out walking and found the narrator easy to listen to. The different characters voices were particularly good and added to the comedic aspect which may have been missing if I had read the book. I really enjoyed Dr Watson's voice who also narrates the book. I found this book easy listening.

I loved the unpredictable insanity of it all

It was such a fun and novel retelling of the Sherlock Holmes series.

Warlock Holmes was a strange, socially inept and darkly sympathetic character, while John Watson was a brilliant, slightly more proper, recasting of the original Sherlock and Watson melded into one.

Their adventures were hilarious and the world was so familiar and yet not at the same time.

Very entertaining, I would definitely recommend.

Did nothing for me.

I'm a Sherlock Holmes fan so gave this a go for 8 chapters but didn't like it. Narrator's phrasing irritating and his Warlock voice silly. Glad it was part of a bogof and I didn't waste a credit on it.
