Story
It has been 20 years since the end of the war. The dictatorial Augurs - once thought of almost as gods - were overthrown and wiped out during the conflict, their much-feared powers mysteriously failing them. Those who had ruled under them, men and women with a lesser ability known as the Gift, avoided the Augurs' fate only by submitting themselves to the rebellion's Four Tenets.

Story
The Catenan Republic—the Hierarchy—may rule the world now, but they do not know everything. I tell them my name is Vis Telimus. I tell them I was orphaned after a tragic accident three years ago, and that good fortune alone has led to my acceptance into their most prestigious school. I tell them that once I graduate, I will gladly join the rest of civilized society in allowing my strength, my drive, and my focus—what they call Will—to be leeched away and added to the power of those above me, as millions already do. As all must eventually do.

Publisher's Summary
After bursting onto the fantasy scene with his acclaimed debut novel, Elantris, and following up with his blockbuster Mistborn trilogy, Brandon Sanderson proves again that he is today's leading master of what Tolkien called 'secondary creation', the invention of whole worlds, complete with magics and myths all their own.
Warbreaker is the story of two sisters who happen to be princesses, the God King one of them has to marry, the lesser god who doesn't like his job, and the immortal who's still trying to undo the mistakes he made hundreds of years ago. Their world is one in which those who die in glory return as gods to live confined to a pantheon in Hallandren's capital city and where a power known as BioChromatic magic is based on an essence known as breath that can be collected only one unit at a time from individual people.
By using breath and drawing upon the colour in everyday objects, all manner of miracles and mischief can be accomplished. It will take considerable quantities of each to resolve all the challenges facing Vivenna and Siri, princesses of Idris; Susebron, the God King; Lightsong, reluctant god of bravery; and mysterious Vasher, the Warbreaker.

Loved the unraveling mystery
I loved the unraveling mystery and that it is not your standard hero story. It kept me guessing to the end and I enjoyed the new world.

Conflicted.
I came so close to putting this down, so many times. The story is long & confusing. I didn’t connect with any of the characters.. UNTIL the last 30%. Then I was hooked, & invested & glad I didn’t stop. It makes a lot more sense. I just wish it had started earlier.

Absolutely fantastic, not just another easy, simple, fantasy book
I really loved this book. It is clever and insightful, like the best fantasy novels, while it is set in an imaginary world that world and its characters are believable and consistent. There is magic, but the system of magic is explained, so I never felt it was used to fix problems the author couldn’t find a believable solution for.
Brandon Sanderson is a great writer and his plots are never simplistic. Like some of his other books, at first Warbreaker lulls you into a false sense of security, it seems like a fairly traditional coming of age/YA fantasy book - a genre which is pleasant to read but often quite predictable - but then he shakes you awake and reminds you that the real world doesn’t work like that, life isn’t that simple. There are several twists and enough foreshadowing of each that even if you didn’t see it coming, you feel like you should have.
The narrator is great too, Alyssa Bresnahan brings the characters to life and I particularly love the way she reads the evil sword.

Great!
Took a while to get into this book but I was soon hooked and couldn't stop listening. Fantastic character development in this story. I like how the focus shifted from the younger sister to the older one.

perfect
perfect in many ways
original story with a different approach to magic use, the character building is great, the omg moments when certain key things happen. my only gripe is the narrator sometimes didn't leave a space between change of scenes, so some scenes nearly blurred together but it wasn't enough for me to give less than 5 stars
