About this listen

Thoreau's classic account of the solitary life, describing his attempts to simplify his life and sort out his priorities by living alone in a cabin beside Walden Pond for nearly two years, is one of the most influential books ever written. The bible of the environmental movement, Walden vividly portrays Thoreau's reverence for nature, and his understanding of the idea that nature is made up of crucially interrelated parts.Public Domain (P)2006 Trout Lake Media Art & Literature Authors Classics Nature & Ecology Outdoors & Nature Science

Lays down a challenge to our modern ways of living; Walden makes me think living in the woods next to a beautiful pond wouldn't be too bad.

Fantastic

the narrator clearly has never said a lot of these words aloud before and ruined it for me

There’s more useful guidance to dealing with climate change or whatever you want to call it in this book than Greta / Extinction Rebellion / Greens put together, it’s beautifully written easy to listen but also very sad that almost 200 years ago somebody had the foresight to highlight the folly of our greed & selfishness….but we’re still unwilling to do anything about it

Better than Greta

Many people I have reccomend this book to dont like the narrators voice, but I feel his quippy tone adds to the 1800's feel and transpots you to the shores of Walden Pond.

Incredible

The language is old-world type english if you know what I mean...almost Shakespearean, which focuses your attention in a calming way. The storyline is a simple but very descript account of his time living in the woods. It was, for me, very calming to listen to and there were many moments of deeper meaning which makes you think of your own life and how you live it.

meaning beyond its words. introspective, relaxing

It is in eye testing that in the 1800’s there were still those who pined for a less complicated life. A little tedious, but an excellent look at an alternate path to leave the rat-race behind. Also a good look at basic living in the 1800’s, a literary time capsule, if you will.

Great book, read well.

I found it much easier to listen to this book, rather than read it.

Great book

Didn’t like it then. Still don’t. Preachy and ponderous.
If you want to “read Thoreau”, the Civil Disobedience is the book.

Had to read this 50 years ago. Thought I’d revisit it
