Mark Edwards is infatuated with Vicky Thornton. Right after he enters the seventh grade at Tecumseh Junior High School, he decides to participate in a pie-eating contest. Not just any pie- eating contest, but The Great Lemon Meringue Pie Eating Contest of the seventh grade. Mark has to win to prove his worth to Vicky Thornton.

On the morning of the pie-eating contest, something strange happens. Mark is forced to face Vicky and reveal something that no one could have anticipated. Mark tells Vicky the truth and puts his trust in her hands. What’s at stake is the fate of a young romance.

Some things that happen when you are 12 years old, haunt you the rest of your life. Mark Edwards attends the same junior and high school as Vicky Thornton. He also attends the 10-year and 30-year high school reunions. It is during one of those high school reunions that Mark Edwards has an epiphany and realizes that Vicky Thornton and the Lemon Meringue Pie helped him to realize his destiny.
